I am new to the whole craft beer world but I have already amass a pretty nice collection. My problem is my typical California home has no basement. My garage gets extremely hot in summer. My food pantry too much traffic a mishap just waiting to happen. So, I chose the closet under my stairs with the beer in large bottle case boxes on the floor. Is there anything else I should do or could do? Do not want my investment waisted. I will be buying a small beverage fridge for the garage shortly.

Dig a hole in your back yard, about 4 foot deep and bury the boxes. It's just like a basement!

When I lived in Cali I did exactly what you are doing. as long as there is little to no light, and the temperatures stay stable it is all you can do.

i live in Cali and i'm doing exacty what you are. 15 years ago (before i owned my own home), i did the same thing in a house rented. sounds like the closet under the stairs is universally the natural space with stable conditions in our neck of the woods.

New to BA, in your same situation except in a one story home.
I'll be spending more time in this section of the forum to read up a lot on members' experiences.....

I've some hall closets, bottom of the food pantry is nice and tucked back.... but I don't have any spot in the home that I would consider anywhere near "cellar temps" ... sounds like stable temp is more the goal anyhow but yeah... San Diego swings pretty wild as far as temps go for where I'm at in North County inland. I'm thinking the small beer fridge is really the only effective option right?

Look the other way I am new at this as well but I think a mixture of small fridge and closet with no sunlight a stable temperatures is all we can ask for so it appears.

I have a few beers in my "cellar" that is basically a cardboard box in a dark closet that I almost never open.
