Hey everyone on the West Coast, I am coming out to San Clemente over the 1st through the 6th in the New Year. I would like to know where some of the best places that have a great beer selection.I also would be willing to bring beers from Colorado, Denver Boulder area to make a trade with any of you! Their Seal Beach location is nice too (more guest taps I feel like). If you were to pingpong SD to LA I would say your best bets are Alesmith/Ballast Poibnt, Stone/Port&LostAbbey, Pizza Port (all), Beachwood (SB/LB), Bruery, Nobel, Valiant and you should cover most of the bases. I have lots of Bruery exclusives and Firestone specialties (Sucaba/Parabola '12 & '13) up for trade if you want to meet up somewhere along the way. Always happy to get my hands on some non-Cali distributed seasonal/brewery only releases. Maybe some crooked stave sours?
Are you flying into LAX or SNA? Day one-Pizza Port San Clemente for sure. Day two-Drive north to Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach. Except on Mondays. There closed as well as the Seal Beach location. Then drive 15 minutes to Beachwood Seal Beach. Head into Orange County to Bootleggers Brewery and then down to the Bruery and last call at Noble. Day three-Alpine (brewery closed mon & tue/brewpub closed mon), Societe and the big 3 Stone, Port/Lost Abbey & Ballast Point or Green Flash. But there are a lot of other great choices. Day 4-Drink water to rehydrate for day five.
What dcgunman said except that the Alpine brewery is closed on Sunday and Monday. Hollingshead Deli always has a nice tap list but is on the expensive side (IMO). O'Sheas might be the best bottle shop in south OC, but I'm not too familiar with what is in San Clemente. "OC Taphunter" can be a good resource. Enjoy.
And they'll sell you bottles, and will even go over to the brewery if the fridge gets emptied out - as long as you tell them you aren't an LA Douchebag.
