Original Pattern Oktoberfest is pretty tasty. Drank from the can in a parking lot so I couldn't evaluate color or head retention, but it tasted more along the lines of a rich marzen than a festbier.

I’ve never been a big fan of the style. I find them too sweet for my liking, at least based on what I’ve had from multiple breweries in recent years. Sam Tierney of Firestone Walker tweeted something along the lines of, if you can session this type of beer, it needs more work. I agree with his assessment of the style here in the US that they are on the sweeter side and lack balance.

I hesitate to reference the imports we get out here in the States to really gauge the quality. I might try to hit up Rasselbock out here to see what they’re tapping during Oktoberfest.

Curious to hear y’all’s opinion on this style.

I love Festbier and drink alot of them. Eppig is king, others I've had this year are: Alesmith is good a bit on the sweet side; Society very good; Burgeons is a Helles Lager fest just as Pizzaports is a Helles Lager- both are very good. I think Eppig's Festbier is my all time favorite American made German style lager.

The only california fest bier I've had so far is Firestone Oaktoberfest. It's a very good amber oktoberfest

I didn’t realize I had a typo on my paraphrase of Sam Tierney’s threaded tweet regarding Festbier here in the US.

“If you can’t sit down and drink several liters of this style without getting tired of it, you need to keep working on it. I don’t even think that means it needs to be super pale, just dry and with enough hops to keep the finish away from cloying territory.”

Somehow this beer survived shipment without leaking, lol! Nice roasty flavor followed by a little dryness and earthiness.

    Thanks @bret27

    9 5/16 °P by Moonlight Brewing Co.

Nice khaki head that quickly dissipated. notes of dark breads, light roasty flavor followed by a little dryness. Not quite as bitter as death & taxes.

    Thanks @bret27

This is one of the best beers at Trader Joes. Passed right by the mid Ayingers for this one

In comparison to their sours/wilds the pricing on the lagers/pils packs is a steal . It also helps thst the quality is top tier.

Paternal Instinct from Moonlight is drinking super nice right now. Great pilsner with a slightly modern hopping approach. Freaking delicious

Can’t wait for next Saturday, the Low & Slow Lager Fest at Bagby. Always a great time and so many great breweries.
