This might see like a dumb question but are there laws against allowing children in tasting rooms with their parents in California? I know states such as Oregon and Colorado allow it but I was curious if California is different. I'm planning a vacation to Cali with my small child and would like to be informed in advance.

No state laws against it, and off the top of my head I can’t think of any California breweries that disallow/discourage children in their tasting room.

I found myself holding a baby at a tasting room a few months ago, and I'm not sure how the hell that happened.

depends on each individual license but most seem to allow children

just call where you plan on visiting in advance and then you'll know for sure

If you go to Lost Abbey/Port Brewing, ask them to break out the chalk bucket. Seen many a child in their drawing away on the concrete floor. Helps to keep them entertained while you're enjoying your tasty beverage.

Eagle Rock refuses children, but I doubt you'd visit them anyway.

I know Drakes doesn't allow anyone under 21. Not every place follows this, but places that serve alcohol but not food are generally 21 and over.

Might be a norcal thing? In SD, almost none of the tasting rooms serve food but all of them that I can think of allow younger children.

Possibly. I know I was doing research in opening a bottle shop with taps, and the licensing page I was looking at said that if food was not provided, it could be 21 and over only. (Don't have the link right now. This was over 6 months ago I was looking into this).

I should clarify... I've taken my child to Bruery tasting room a few times without any consequence.

    A little off topic...

I was at Valiant brewery in Orange this past Saturday. A group of about 5 men and 5 women were there with ~5 toddlers/infants. One of the women was breastfeeding with no blanket covering. Now...I'm all for BF your baby in public places, including restaurants, but c'mon, it's a brewery. If you're breastfeeding why not stay home or at least use a cover-up? How about breast pump before you go out into a bottle? I mean, there is a lot of alcohol being served and it does tend to make people stare, laugh, and more giddy.

I'll probably be flamed, but oh well.

You should have asked for a taster glass...

BNS in Santee has a cool train-shaped chalkboard in the beer garden. I know they and Mission both allow children.

Alpine doesn't want kids in the brewpub, I think

I've seen tons of kids in there. I mean it's basically a restaurant. Though I do remember seeing a sign like this in there:

Lagunitas has a sign with the exact same verbiage. Love it.
