My dad is headed out to California for the 3rd time this year. He has only brought me back Russian River stuff like Pliny, Blind Pig, Consecration, etc.. What else besides Russian River stuff should he pick up for me that's easy to semi easy to get at the total wine and other stores?

Since I have never been to Cali on a beer hunt I am not sure what is distributed out there thats good or semi easy to get...

Woops sorry yes that would be vital info! He oversees a Steel Plant in Rancho Cucamongo near LA.

I'll be in San Francisco. I know to hit Russian River And Lagunitas. Who knows what I'll find. I know Bruery will be on my list.

Hair of the Dog is excellent and not difficult to find in Cali. Try to pickup Adam from them.

Try using seekabrew.com It's a pretty good way of seeing what is available elsewhere.

Thats a good site, never knew it existed till now! Unfortunately I am not to keen on some of the other breweries besides RR and FW.. Any personal recommendations on beers you have tried or picked up in Cali would be appreciated.

LA specific... I've liked the few beers I've had from Golden Road. Nothing blowout amazing though.

I'd look at totalwine and preorder before he gets there and have him pick it up. BevMo (also big there) does that as well. Give the store a call beforehand and see what's new. Easy peasy.

Rancho Cucamunga is just on the edge of being in BFE, so I don't know what you'll be able to find there. Other good CA breweries are Alpine, Alesmith, Green Flash (we get some, but not all their stuff) and 50/50 (for Eclipse). Maybe post in the CA forum for more specific recs for that area

Make sure to get to City Beer Store if you have a chance. I picked up some great stuff there last month. They get some RR, Bruery, Evil Twin, Alesmith, etc. as well as some decent locals. They also have a good rotating tap list, and some amazing bottles to drink on site (if you've got the cash). There is a lot more information on the Pacific board.

Search in Pacific forums and lurk a little bit, I have a California trip planned out already minus the vacation time off work and actually leaving Texas.

Well so far my Dad has been 5 times over the last year for his job and each time be brings back a few pliny's, some blind pig, and consecration, and one supplication. He goes mostly to a total wine store and also a few smaller stores.

I added Alesmith X to the list. Another friend told me he was out in Cali last month and picked up a few of that and loved it.

Going to Stone and drinking their brewpub exclusives is also a good idea.

If he's shopping Total Wine, you can go online and place your order for store pick-up. They hold it for like 14 days, I think. Worst case, you can get a sense of what they have in stock at the location he'll be visiting. Their online inventory isn't 100% accurate, but most of it seems to be in stock when I go to the Fort Worth store after browsing online.

After a quick look at whats in stock per the Rancho Cucamonga TW website, I'd personally be looking to pick up a few of from this list:

    Alesmith Speedway Stout
    Alesmith Old Numbskull
    Alesmith IPA
    Epic Big Bad Baptist
    Lost Abbey Serpents Stout
    Lost Abbey Deliverance
    Port Brewing Old Viscosity
    Port Brewing Older Viscosity
    Port Brewing Mongo IPA
    Russian River Sanctification
    Uinita Labyrinth

Obviously, it depends on your own preferences, but those are some highly regarded beers that we dont get in TX that I'd love to try.

Picked up 6 Pliny, 4 Damnation, 1 Consecration, 2 Redemption, 1 Supplication. Had Pliny, Hop2It, Row 2 Hill 56, and Little White Lie on tap. Then headed to Lagunitas for some Waldo.
