My family has a beach house in Cambria, CA, and I was there in March. While I was there, I discovered the newly opened Cambria Brewing! Right at the bottom of the hill from our beach house. My girlfriend and I enjoyed trying the beers and talking craft brew with the owner/head brewer Aaron. I was wearing my Bruery RS sweater, so we were talking Bruery, sour ales, wild yeasts, etc. I was really excited with his plans for the brewery and his love for craft beer. I was recently there for 4th of July and was bummed to find out I missed out on his saison. I did get to have an amber ale and sipped of my girlfriend's wit...and they were both delicious. Just got this e-mail the other day. Looks very exciting! Hopefully I will get to try these! Thoughts? Anyone had any beers from Aaron?:

Part of the allure of having a brewery the size we are is that I get to tinker with the beers and the beer selection. Our goal is to have a profile of 4 or 5 beers that are always in stock, such as our Porter, Amber, Pale Ale. Then we get to experiment! This is the fun part of the job. We started out by taking our Saison and adding in a Brettanomyces strain of yeast and Ollaliberries from Linn's farm. The result was a dry, tart, refreshing beer that had hints of berry in it. It was extremely popular and we sold out in a weekend of the beer. We will make this one again for sure! Stay tuned for those details, we don't know when but we will update the website and send an email about 2 weeks out.

Our next 3 experimental beers are as follows:

Flemish Ale: We took our Belgian Wit and fermented it with a Flemish Ale yeast and a variety of "bugs" or bacteria which will give the beer a sour, tartness to it. This is progressing along nicely but still needs a bit more time to fully develop the flavors we are looking for.

Monkey Wrench: This is our Oatmeal Stout that we have aged in a Petite Syrah wine barrel. The extra tannins extracted are giving this one quite the mouth feel .

Cherry Bomb: Robust Porter re-fermented with Brettanomyces Anomulus and tart cherries. We are anticipating a hin
t of cherries in the background that will marry up with the chocolate notes of the base beer.

I apologize for how the copy-paste text turned out. I am not computer-savy... just copied from my e-mail and don't really know how to change it.

Yeah I have been there a couple times and am part of the same brewclub as Aaron. He is a great guy and I am real excited to see what new ideas he comes up with out there..new favorite thing to do when in Cambria is lunch at Main St Grill and short walk to tasting room for some of his beers

My best friend has a house in cambria and we usually go over there a couple times a month. Being 10 steps from the door to the water is a hard thing to tear myself away from. We usually go into town on Saturday nights to eat at robins, but that's about the only time for me. I guess I'll shock the wife and agree to go into town with them during the day next time.
    Whereabouts is the brewery located?

This is really good to know. My in-laws live in Cayucos so I'll have to stop by next time we are in town. Any chance they do growler fills?

I'm trying to remember if I saw growlers. I saw pint glasses and tasting glasses. Possibly could have been growlers too.

Cool little spot in a cool location. Excited to see what comes out of this place.

Iif you're there, do not miss Cambria Ale house down on Main street. Good beers on tap and good bottle selection (including non-hoppy beers from Kern!)

I was very excited to see Cambria Ale House last time I was there. We had a beer and some very tasty almonds that we purchased from there...local I believe. My only criticism for this place is that the tap selection was very limited...definitely need some more taps in order to be called an Ale House. I remember when Mustache Pete's was there, and they even had more handles with a solid selection. Also, the bottle selection was exactly what you could find at the BevMo in San Luis. Not to mention, there are two bottle shops ten minutes away in Morro Bay with a far better bottle selection. I'm glad this place is here, but it just needs to try to get better stuff than the Shell station in Cambria has. They are still young though, so I have a feeling they will improve.

This is the Cambria Beer Company thread, let's keep it that way. An update since I am on here. We are brewing up an IPA today. Expected to be 8.1%, 75 IBU, 8-ish on color. Pale Malt, Munich, Crystal 10 & 40. Warrior, Cascade and Falconers Flight for the hops. Chico Ale yeast is what we went with.

    Fingers crossed as always.

    Cheers
    Aaron

I just ventured up here today on a birthday excursion with my wife and some friends having grown up here all my life. (Homer comments coming.) The Green River IPA was one of the best IPAs I've ever tried. Seriously was not expecting anything besides a run of the mill, malt forward, IPA. This stuff is right up there with Hill Farmstead Abner in terms of peach profile. Very much trying to change my plans for Sunday in order to come back and get a growler fill to share with some OC people next week.

Didn't manage to make it back yesterday afternoon and I'm really kicking myself. Coming back next month but based on the limited brewing size I suspect this one will be long gone. **Petition to make Green River year round!!!**

Any news as to when these next "experimental beers" will be released? This Fresno heat is really making me want to head to the Cambria beach house.

We are getting hit pretty hard right now. We are having a hard time keeping beer in stock!! We have 2 beers in the works for Pinedorado Parade on Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1st. An Amber and a Brown ale will be served at both the tap room and the fairgrounds by the vets hall. We also have a Dortmund Export and Dunkleweizen for Oktoberfest on Oct 6th. Both will be pouring at the festival and the tap room!

Regarding Green River: Thanks for the feedback and compliments. I have not had the Hill Farmstead, but from what I read it is quite a compliment. Thank you. It will be a year round beer. Now that we have conquered the Pale Ale and IPA, we are moving onto a Double IPA, called Comatose. Last time we brewed this it was for opening day and it was 10.8% and 100 IBU's (on paper at least).

So far the market has decided that we will be producing the following beers year round:
Robust Porter, Oatmeal Stout, Pale, IPA, Saison, and something fun.

We are in the midst of increasing our cold room from 10 barrels of beer to 30, so we can brew a Saison in the fall time and release it in the spring, or a RIS, or Barleywines. So great things are coming our way, rather your way!

    Aaron
