I keep thinking of things I'm going to miss after CBC is gone. Another thing I'm going to miss is going to the Brattle Theater for a movie and knowing I can get a 20oz draft of Tripel Threat or Sgt Pepper or Death & the Maiden or some other CBC treat. Or going to Club Passim for a show and knowing that they will have four CBC drafts flowing including Charles River Porter and Cambridge Amber. One fewer reason to visit Harvard Square.

(and now that I'm going back through my pictures, I'm remembering that the Brattle Theater offered Pretty Things bombers at their concession stand back in the early 2010s. And I drank a bunch of them in the balcony - those were the days!)

I believe the head brewer position at Idle Hands is open…

Many times I took the 5 minute walk from CBC to a movie at Landmark Kendall Square.

If I was Will, I would consult/do collaborations that he found interesting. I don't know if it's worth the capital costs of starting a brewery. I also feel like if he did start his own thing, it would not be in Massachusetts.

Meyers seemingly implied this in a recent post: hinting at passion projects that are driven by technique + authenticity: “…create subtle beauty, not to impress their peers”

Below is a brief interaction b/w Will & Garrett a few weeks ago: Will’s follow-up is critical (a rare sincerity) & stresses the above viewpoint per “ An artist should be fulfilled by the creation of the thing, not by the…”

Made first of hopefully several farewell visits yesterday. Food was excellent and Om is a fantastic beer. It was packed there, too.

I've always been a big fan of CBC's yearly batch of Heather Ale and the other gruits they have brewed over the years. If I remember correctly, CBC even used to have a mini celebration for International Gruit Day in February with a few guest taps.

Is anyone else in New England brewing gruits on the regular? I've sampled a couple from Earth Eagle Brewing in Portsmouth in the past, but I don't see any gruits listed on their current tap list. Anyone else?

Ive seen the Black Flannel gruit on several VT trips over the years. Have never tried it though.

Earth Eagle I believed changed head brewers and now no longer specializes in gruits. Urban Farm in Portland used to be gruit place but they went out of business. I feel like we are out of luck at moment. No offense to VT unless they distribute not often chance to try for us coastal new englanders.

The owners/brewer hasn’t changed at EE. Brewery owners are just scraping by at this point to make a profit, and although I loved their gruits, they’re not exactly generating revenue from the masses.

Made perhaps my last pilgrimage to CBC on Saturday afternoon. Every beer I had was fantastic as always and the food was on point. It's a damn shame that this place is going away.

OpenTable reservations are now available through December 20, 2024 which is CBC's last day of service. Glad that I've got a reservation but super sad there are only three months remaining.

Thanks for the heads up. Grabbed a table for the last night to say the final goodbye. I wonder what they will have available on tap? I imagine it may be a challenge for them to try and figure out how much beer to brew leading up to the final days.

Yup, did the same with a large group. It's entirely possible it will end up as a ticketed event or something a bit more organized with no formal dinner tables. Maybe buffet style or no food at all?

This is based on another time I went to the last day of a brewery. So take that for what it's worth.
