Anyone happen to know of some good campgrounds near-ish to Hill Farmstead? Nothing obvious shows up via Google, figured I'd see if any BAs have found anything. In an ideal world, we'd be looking for a site within a half hour drive to HFB, preferably on a body of water with some good fishing. Any advice welcome!

Are you doing multiple days at HF on your trip? Or making a night of being out at HF (which is not usually possible since they close at 5)? If not, I suggest staying in Waterbury instead. It's only an hour away and there's a lot more going on (Pro Pig, Blackback, Res, Hen of the Wood, etc.). We always camp out at Little River, which has water, canoe and kayak rentals as well.

I've heard that Harvey's Lake is nice, but it might be a little further than you were looking for.

We're hoping to drop by Hill Farmstead on two days (friday and saturday) of what will be a 4 night/5 day trip. Arriving at the campsite on Thursday night, leaving Monday. I would love to do Waterbury, but fishing is definitely a main goal of this trip also - how's Little River?

Yeah, I checked that out - unfortunately no campgrounds. They just have 1 cottage folks can rent, but that's it.

You're probably better off - I think Crystal Lake is where Jason Voorhees went all choppy choppy.

The school system in the county that I grew up in down in Florida owns a summer camp called Camp Crystal Lake, and all the 5th grade classes used to get to go on an overnight field trip. We were all terrified.

Sorry, didn't notice the "open for day" use part.

Both little River and Elmore State Park allow fishing and camping. Elmore is going to be closer to HF, about 40 minutes away rather than an hour. Not sure of the fishing regulations in VT state parks, but I know you can get your license right at Little River. I don't think that is the case for Lake Elmore.

Mountain view campgrounds is like 35 minutes away on rt 15. probably not as close as you had hoped, but better than staying in waterbury or burlington

Groton State forest is nearby. It's primitive, remote, and free for most spots. If you are a car camper there are a few state parks with camping in the vicinity.
