There was some talk a while ago about running a CAN BIF in the spring and now seems like the perfect time to get this going. Who has organized these in the past? I don't mind offering my services to get the ball rolling...

Is there still interest in this?

I don't want to step on any toes, so I will wait to make sure that whoever has orgnized this in the past is not still around and interested in organizing it again. I haven't particiapted in the past (which explains my ignorance).

Yeah, he's been pretty much MIA in the last 6-9 months.

Given the problems that can arise in these BIFs, having someone who may only log in once a week is a big detriment. So I am happy to fill in and organize this as long as there is enough demand.

Also, could someone fill me in as to what the typical volume requirements are? I assume there must be an oz range that the total of all bottles sent need to be between?

I am interested enough to participate but some of you more experienced BAs might have to walk me through the shipping and stuff.

I'm trying to remember from the last one - I think it was a 6 small bottles and 2 bombers with a piece of swag as a minimum, don't remember if there was a maximum. It was a little odd in that you knew who was sending to you - was sorta just groups of 5-6 people who sent in a cycle to each other.

Yeah, was meant as more of a general help for trading. I believe it was 4 groups that simultaneously shipped within their group starting with the first, second, third....
We could actually request which province we'd like to receive from though it was Goldorak's call when hew arranged the teams. We'd know in advance who was sending and we could communicate with them (or they with us) to make requests or find out preferences and such. I know BIFs in the US are different but maybe knowing who's sending is good since the wants/gots are a bit tough to match up.

Here's a recent thread for more info: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/us-can-bif-round-2.4710/

How about we just make up the rules now? Doesn't have to be the same as the last CAN BIF.

I was thinking about how to organize trading partners. Letting people request the province their beer is oming from seems like it will be more trouble than it is worth. But what I was thinking is that if people have regular trading partners (I have one in QUE for example) they can request to not receive from or send to that person. And also, perhaps each person could specifiy one province that they won't receive from if they have regular access to that province.

As far as the limits go, my thought is that we do something similar to the CAN/US BIF. Set limits that either cater to a 6 bottle shipper (100-140 oz.) or a 12 bottle shipper (160-200 oz). We can encourage but not mandate the use of wine-shippers.

I like the sound of that. I figure 6 bombers (=12 small bottles) is a good place. Try to suggest 1 rarer beer too maybe?

I also like mandating a piece of schwag...

I know from the organizer's end it is a pain, but I like the idea for someone to opt out of a province if they can get their beers easily.

Also, in the past the BIF had people communicating about what they wanted, I dislike this. I like the surprise, and I think it should be all at once sending (within a short timeframe). I always though 'BIFs' meant that you had to get then sent in a long chain. This takes too long. I'll quit talking now

I was waiting for this to pop back up again. I'm definitely interested, I'm just afraid we may get a lot of Toronto-centric traders

Do you think we might get > 50% of the participants from Ontario? If not, it should be pretty easy to match up people from Ontairo with people from other provinces.

I clicked on this thinking you were talking about beer cans. Clearness fail

I probably spoke too soon, you only posted this yesterday so I'm sure giving it a bit more time we'd get more people from across Canada, I know of a few rare good local brews to grab for this around southern Ontario now.
