I love that most craft cans look NOTHING like an alcoholic beverage container. I can roll down the highway sippin' on Hop Crisis or CoConut Porter without the popo being any the wiser.

As an employee of a company that makes bottles for bells, founders, FFF as well as AB, can we all agree that we will prefer bottles for the next 15 - 17 years until i retire...

I'll take any beer in the bottle anyday!!! Brown bottle only! I seem to always be able to taste the can. Year old Ten Fidy tasted like metallic trash can!

    It's in your head.

When all commercial beer is canned, you can sell bottles to homebrewers who no longer have a source.

I wish... I clean the tops and dryed them really well... Like biting tin foil! Had it from a keg (yeah, I know it's metal also!), and loved it!

Pour the beer into a glass. If you did and you still taste metal, it's definitely in your head.

Have you done blind taste tests with beer poured from a can and a bottle and consistently been able to pick out the canned version?

Give me a year old bottle of Ten Fiddy and I will.

You can do this with Ranger, SNPA or Torpedo to name a few biggies. I was blown away by how much better the canned Torpedo was.

But if anyone has a year-old bottle of Ten Fiddy please send it to me and I will do a comparison...

I recently had a 12-pack of SNPA in cans and thought they had a slight metallic taste. And yes, I always poured them into a glass.

I know it definately could have been in my head, though. Maybe the recent can craze has just reminded me too much of Koch's Golden Anniversary from college!

And maybe that's a con for cans...reminds one too much of some very poor beer (e.g., Piels, Keystone, Coors Light, etc.)

I misunderstood, I thought you meant you could "taste" cans in general.

Not always... had Narragansett Cream Ale right out of the can recently and tasted no can, In a glass... no can... Maybe it was just something from that Ten Fidy. Had Torpedo from a can to tulip glass... got some metal flavors. Had Brooklyn summer from both the bottle and can this summer (at different times) and could taste some tin. Saranac Pale from can and bottle the same night at a BBQ, no difference at all. I dunno?

Cons- if all beers went to cans, there would be no more forum discussions/arguments about the superiority of cans or bottles.

    Cans,
Pro: Much more environmentally friendly to recycle + everything that everybody else said
Con: Much more destructive to create the first time + use everything that everybody else said

    Bottles,
    Vice versa.

I'd say the best part of the controversy is the quality of popcorn you get to enjoy while watching the political debate.

one of the can pros i appreciate: if you're at the beach, in a hotel room, etc., you don't have to remember to bring a bottle opener.
