Specifically, my best friend is in Ramstein for awhile. I just don't know where to look to tell him where he can look.

    Any help is much appreciated.

We've had this or similar questions here a few times before. Belgian beers are quite rare in Germany. Maybe you wait a day or two until @mjtierney2 sees this. I saw him mention a wine store in Stuttgart which carries Cantillon.

Generally speaking, Germany only sells German beer. Cantillon, being Belgian, usually stays on that side of the border. German retail is weird like that.

That being said, yes, you can find Cantillon in Germany, but he'll have to go to Stuttgart. It may be easier for your buddy to actually go to Brussels, and that's no joke. If you need more info I'm happy to provide it here.

Edit: Thanks @danfue I was responding as you posted!

Should have probably quoted @Corey1031d so he'd know I responded. Corey, is your buddy military? He may also want to check out the AFB commissary if he can, from what I understand they sometimes have treats you can't find in German retail stores.

To (finally) answer your question, the place is called Weinhandlung Kreis. It's right on a square with an old and important looking church, which should narrow it down to all of them. Best bet is to Google the store and look up their downtown address and then figure it out from there. It's not too terribly far from the main train station. When I was there recently they had the Kriek, the LP Framboise, and the Gueuze. They don't have anything beyond that, or perhaps the woman was being coy with me. I had the opportunity to chat with her a bit (the saleswoman). She said that Cantillon actually sells pretty well (which stunned me - lots of Amis in Stuttgart??). I casually said, "they also make an Apricot beer". She kind of smiled politely and didn't react at all. So I added, "but that probably stays in Brussels". She laughed and said, yes, it probably does. A shame, as I was thinking that'd be a great Christmas surprise for die Frau, who would totally love that.

    But I digress.

This is your friend's starting point: http://web.wein-kreis.de/weinhandlung/#Zentrum

Check with Rainer at Berlin Bier Shop in Berlin. They carry A LOT of sours, US Craft, and other exotics. Cantillon can be found there. I think they ship within Germany too.

Brussels is a haul but depending on how much you want...indeed going to Belgium will save a lot of money.

I thought about mentioning Berlin but figured it was too far away. OP, if said friend ends up in Berlin, tell him to check out Hopfen & Malz as well. The owner is a BA who chimes in on these threads once in a while.

Just for fun I checked out Ramstein to Brussels and Ramstein to Stuttgart on the Deutsche Bahn website. He'd probably want to rent a car for Brussels. Stuttgart is still do-able, but 3-ish hours and at least two changes in unpredictable weather in a foreign country...

For reference, I bought two 750 ml bottles of Cantillon in Stuttgart very recently for €22,00 total (Kriek and LP Framboise). Definitely cheaper at Cantillon, but also not crazy crazy like what I hear about the US.

Thank you so much for all of this information. To answer one of you other questions, yes he is military. He's not into craft beers and whatnot like I am, but is always willing to find stuff for me wherever he is stationed. I've never had Cantillon and would love to have some, so I thought today that I might ask and see if anyone had any information.

If he is here short term you are likely out of luck, as nothing we've talked about is really convenient for him. If he's here a little longer term and up to doing some traveling, then maybe you'll get lucky.

It's hard for an American to figure, but although Germany and Belgium share a border, the prevalent attitude in Germany seems to be that Belgian beer belongs in Belgium.

We feel about Belgium the same way you feel about Mexico.

Fixed it for you. Americans generally like Mexico. Cheap labor, great food, the beer is meh but drinkable (Mexico is Americas turkey). Now Canada they just talk funny

Tell your friend to visit Belgium. Otherwise, forget it. Now why wouldn't you want to a German beer instead of asking in A GERMAN forum where the hell to find a Belgium. beer… maybe in Belgium?

Haha, he posted in a different forum and it got moved here, so he gets a pass. Hopefully he already asked his friend to pick up some German beers. If not, OP, we're happy to recommend those, too!

According to Paulaner, however, it is streng limitiert (strongly limited). I hope he can get his hands on one of the millions of cases that I've seen around.

He has a better chance of finding Paulaner Braumeister Münchner Revoluzzer than Cantillon apparently!

    Cheers!

From what I could determine based on your original post about these, it looks like they'll be doing a series, of which the Revoluzzer is the first installment. A lot like the Victory Braumeister series.
