Hey, my "proposed BBC non-beer collaboration" image is still on my Imgur account from the when this topic originally came up in Esquire magazine!

Isn’t it the yeast that consumes the sugar and converts it to alcohol? How would that make one less drunk / not drunk?

Color me nuts, I’ll just do the beer math to stay within my known tolerance limits.

Start eating yeast. Yeah, that’s a whole new level of “pre-gaming.”

I can see it now, pouring a round of yeast shots before a bottle share!

    None for me, thanks.

A guy I worked with years ago would start a night of hard drinking with a glass of raw egg. He swore it kept him from getting too drunk, and he drank a LOT. I'm not aware of any scientific research on this, so try it at your own peril.

Seems to me that I read somewhere that intestinal gas is a side effect of consuming yeast, so I'll pass on eating the yeast and take my chances on what yeast I might drink. Kudos to the breweries that filter their beer!

Lol, old moonshiner guy once told me that eating a stick of butter before drinking heavy will help you from getting sick/hungover. I guess perhaps coatinf all your digestive tract with grease so no absorbption can take place? Sounds to me like a day sitting on the John however.

I have always heard that a night of drinking super yeasty beer will send one running wide open to the necessary room the next morning... If that's true... I would rather get intoxicated quicker

Yeah, but, can you label it an "infection" if you purposely dose yourself with the yeast?

    Cheers!

You have the graphic evidence in the article that the method could work. There is about a 25% difference in the peak alcohol shown. Also the patent shows similar results for other "doses". The patent specifies "blood alcohol", so I assume blood samples were taken. Breathalyzer results might be different (blood is more reliable).

I’m sure Jim Koch believes 100% in what he experiences. I remain skeptical, and a chart made from a sample size of 2 isn’t going to convince me.

Friends, you can lick it, stick it, jam it or cram it, they all have the same effect. :stuck_out_tongue::sunglasses:

Interesting. However, I didn't any explanation for what happens to acetaldehyde, which would still be a by-product of alcohol breakdown? Perhaps this doesn't get absorbed? If it does, in fact, get excreted without harming the body, it seems likely that we could drink an extra beer per night with a pack of yeast. Let's contact the WHO!!
