Brewed a 3 gal batch of DIPA yesterday, OG 1.085. Used a 1.1L yeast starter with 2 packets of 1056. Pitched about 4PM yesterday and by this morning at 6AM the blowoff container (a medium sized vase that was readily available) was nearly full, so I had to dump it and get another container. There was a lot of yeast and krausen in there obviously. My question is, can you lose too much yeast into the blowoff assembly to the point it impacts the ability to hit FG or even the flavor of the beer? I brewed a hefe a few weeks back that was short on the FG by 5 points that was even more vigorous in its initial fermentation. Just wondering if this could be why also.

Yes, you can. I have heard of it happening at commercial breweries with hefeweizen yeast and over filled tanks.
