Came across this online...it confused me. I know each postal processing plant is different but not only did bottles break, they apologized and went through with the delivery....

I know they recently passed rules making shipping label for licensed sellers/shippers...but for traders? I guess the ol argument of it is illegal is finally done?

I doubt it, pretty sure the bill hasn't passed for that yet.

What a shitty packaging job on that box... I would have been more surprised if that made it... A glass floating around with no bubble wrap?

My guess is it's just like when something breaks via Fedex/UPS - it's up to the discretion of the person dealing with your package as to what to do with it. It's entirely possible that the person at USPS has never actually seen this before, and instead of figuring out what complex process they'd have to go through to reject it, they just decided to send it on with a "sorry shit broke" wrapper.

And bottles not wrapped in anything? I wrap and pad the shit out of anything I send. I hope I never get a box like the one in the video.

The video was posted March of last year.

I've just always heard that sending USPS is a huge no no since it is a criminal offense, then I see something like this and can't figure out how this got through. I mean I guess as cbeer said, they could have not wanted to deal with paperwork and just pushed it through but I dunno.

My friend has shipped a few boxes of beer to himself from out of state with USPS. His packing jobs were not that great and a few bottles broke. Both times they opened the box, took out the broken bottles, repacked it and shipped it to him. Some workers/facilities just must not want to do additional work.

yeah, just looked it up and it looks like they are trying to pass the bill as a way to save the post office.

I recognize the voice of the video. I used to watch his videos when I was first getting into craft. He's not the "geekiest" of beer nerds, as in he doesn't seem to be so head-strong into this hobby like many of us, but he is passionate about it and has fun. Look through his other videos and try not to smile.

Yeah, looks like his "very loyal fan" doesn't really know how to pack a beer mail very well. At least it was only DFH beer. (I was gonna put a winky face after that last line, but I'm serious. At least it was only DFH beer)

I had a box where some bottles broke through ups. They took the bubble wrap off and then just put the remaining bottles standing up with no protection and sent it back to me. When it arrived at the plant near my place, they broke another bottle, go figure

I have heard that is what they do at UPS/Fedex, but this was the USPS, and they knew what broke, apologizes and still delivered the package. It blew my mind. If UPS/Fedex won't do that just because it is against policy why would the USPS do it when it is against the law?

It is against the law, but they are just workers pushing the boxes through. It might just be easier to repack it and move it along than to pull it and write up a report or something for illegal goods being shipped (as someone else stated). Maybe too it's a kinder and gentler USPS

But I agree that the pack job looked suspect, that might have contributed to it.

Think of the government level bureaucracy likely involved in something like this. Either fill out 2 hours of paperwork or repack a box...

Fair enough, but they could (and do) very easily return to sender things, which is the least they could do here. But they passed it right through. Just seemed very strange.

They need to restrict the sales of video cameras to people who aren't going to make videos like this.
