I opened a Stone XI Anniversary (the precursor to SSR) a few months ago, and it was pretty muted. Didnt taste bad, but the hops had almost completely gone, leaving it a bit one-dimensional with a decent slightly smoky dark chocolate taste.

Jailhouse out of Hampton, GA did a one off black IPA in 2011 I think called Midnight Special, I laid down four of them and enjoyed the development up to two years, after that it became badly oxidized. I'd think a very aggressive hop forward one would mute a little slower, but it still won't hold up very well.
