    Dear Beer Advocate,

What's the best way to go about asking for a Canada West and Canada East Sub-Region? We're quite a large country up here, and I think it would benefit to separate posts not only for us, but for travelers, traders etc. BC>Manitoba, then Ontario>Maritimes. Just like the CFL (that's our excuse for a football league)

    Thoughts anyone else?

But then I'd need to check 2 forums every 8 minutes:wink:.
I wouldn't have a problem with it but at the same time I don't think there's currently all that much to sift through.

Is there really enough traffic to bother?

I see so many people in the west or the east looking for west or east trading partners it makes sense to have one Canadian forum. Besides it always nice when Alberta gets another 50 new beers to rub it into everyone in Ontario how much the LCBO sucks:slight_smile:

I guess I didn't expect much beyond typical Canadian "oh um eh ya ok sure I guess hmmm maybe sorry I dunno meh" responses... But if there was even some sort of division between the 2 sides/coasts, I believe we would see more traffic and more interest in our respective beers. Or are we content to keep all the American BA's thinking all we get is Cantillon and Unibroue? Bundling it all together to me just makes it seem like we don't have enough beer up here to warrant it, and I think we do. More than enough. Enough that a bunch of Western BAs have basically started their own forum.

I guess I just think if we're going to be put in a 'regional' forum, Canada is way too big for that. Have seen on many occasions people asking for 'local' beers that are thousands of KM apart

I'm more or a splitter than a lumper, so I think additional Canadian regionals would be a good idea and might stimulate more discussion if more focused regional interests were possible.

Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I think BC, Prairies, Ontario, Quebec and Maritimes are unique enough from each other and are developed enough to support regional forums.

The spilt was done on the other popular beer rating website and sometimes there is no traffic on the Western Canada forum there for weeks. At least the way things are presently on BA there is traffic all the time.

Jesus, there are, like, fewer than a dozen threads that have seen action in the past week. Really not justified at all.

I think you have me wrong. I agree with you hoser. There's no reason to split the Canada forum or create sub-forums.

This is an interesting point, but I don't think that the qualifying factor for splitting a geographic area up should be area. By that rationale, the Asia and Africa forums need to be split up also. The qualifying factor (IMHO) should be activity in the group, and it seems that there is never more than a few threads active at any given point in our forum. Compare this to the much smaller 'US - Great Lakes' region which is hard to keep up with.

Theres probably not enough users of the canadian forum to warrant a split.

To be honest I find myself more active in the US - Northwest forums. Appeals more geographically and we can actually get the beers, attend their events, etc.

I've been thinking more about the necessity of splitting forums. I guess it's not needed if people get their info from sources other than BA. I know as an Ontarian, i'm way more active on Bar Towel, as it is a far more exhaustive source of all the local things I'm most interested in.

Just curious.....where do BA's in BC, the Prairies, Quebec and Atlantic Canada get their beer info from? Would you be more active on BA with an increased regional focus, or would it not make a difference?

East and west split would probably be fine, any further differentiation would likely result in forum wastelands.

A bunch of Vancouver BAs started a 'private' forum basically. It's extremely active. Better format for discussions too.
