G'day, eh? I will be doing a road trip with a buddy in early July. Focus will be on Civil War sites and beer. Any BA's in Norfolk VA, Richmond, Wilmington, Charleston, Atlanta, Asheville, Nashville that want to trade brews, just beermail me. I am looking for stuff on the BA top 100 list that is not available in Canada. In trade, I can provide some Cdn product. Could you also recommend a bar in those places that have a good tap selection, and may also feature a trivia night? Cheers.

No trivia night, but you'll find amazing stuff on tap (and in bottles) at Edmund's Oast in Charleston (SC, did you mean WV?). They are a brand-spanking-new brewpub, and they are impressive as hell.

Yup. I meant SC. The internet has an ad for a brews cruise in Charleston and in Asheville. Can you recommend if it is a good deal, or should we just pub crawl on our own?

The brews cruise in Asheville looks fun, not sure where they stop, but it might be worth the time if you don't want to drive and park, or attempt to park around Asheville during that time. It'll be busy downtown.

Charleston is easy to get around enough anyways.

The Brews Cruise companies offer a varied schedule, so you could pick and choose from where they're going to fit what it is you want to try. The last one I was on hit Highland, Hi-Wire, Greenman and Troy & Sons (whiskey). If you were going to do a Brews Cruise or Beer Cruise (there are a couple of companies doing so in Asheville), I would do the out of downtown breweries like Highland, Pisgah, Wedge (its not out of town but not near the others) or Altemont (West Asheville). This will allow you to enjoy the beers without driving.

All of the South Slope Breweries, Hi-Wire, Wicked Weed, Greenman, Burial, Twin Leaf and Asheville Brewing are all in about a 1 mile radius and can be walked to as long as you don't have walking issues. You will have to do some walking as these breweries are not like right next door to each other, well Burial and Greenman are within 100' of each other, so bring comfortable shoes.

I'm getting ready to do a South Slope Tour with some out of town friends Friday, I can report back on how I felt doing the walk. However, know this, I am in real good shape for my age.

Welcome to the south! You simply MUST visit Asheville. It's the best beer city on the East Coast in my opinion. Would love to meet up for a bottle swap. Charleston is excellent if you get there, Edmund's Oast, Charleston Beer Exchange, Westbrook and Coast are all "must sees".

I can do a bottle swap, but please give me some idea of what you want from Canada. We have lots of top rated stuff I could bring. I may end up doing the brews cruise (don't want to drink and drive) in both Charleston and Asheville. Love the internet. I will research their schedules, prices, and pick up points so I can ensure I am booked in a hotel nearby.
