CANBIF Fall 2015: Hints & Hauls

I received my box today and opened that massive thing this evening. This awesome box made up for the Jays loss. I must have done something right to have such beer karma.



I'm pretty sure this monster was from Todd. I'm quite impressed he hit up so many beers that I will thoroughly enjoy. May your glass never be empty!

A few are being stashed away immediately, and a few others will be cracked open tomorrow when I have some folks over to see the new house.

 

Sorry for the delay in sending out my box, work has been demanding this week. I found some time tonight to pack up 237oz of goodness to be sent tomorrow. Should be delivered to my target early next week.

 

I proposed this idea, or a version of this idea to a few Vancouver people. Curious to hear thoughts from people participating in this round.

As an unwritten rule, what if we decided as part of CANBIF to make a point (not a requirement, voluntary) of rating/reviewing each Canadian beer we send and receive? Take it further and review the breweries if you've actually been to them. The Canadian beer list is so-so updated at best and out of date. Anything new has maybe 5-10 reviews, usually none, if it's even on there. A few of what I sent aren't on BA yet.

Also funny to see a very popular BC beer having 3 of the most recent reviews from guys in Ontario

Just a thought, but I think it could go a long way to helping people decide wants for things like this CANBIF, form somewhat educated opinions, and also the overall trade forums for Canadians, and general advocacy and support for our respective locals, which is what this site is about to me

This seems like a decent idea. In Atlantic Canada most craft has even fewer reviews. In fact, I sent something from a brewery that isn't even on BA yet.

 

Got my box from the Captain last night. Everything is in order. I'll be posting pictures last weekend but kudos for the packaging - 12 beers + a growler in a 12 slot styro!!!

I"m really glad to see the beer scene out East picking up. I probably have not done a trade with somebody from the Atlantic for the last three or four years and I am glad to see there is quite a few new breweries.

 

Expected Delivery: Tuesday the 13, however...The item was processed not more than 10 Km from you this morning.

 

Someone (you know who you are) in La Belle Province should be getting a box today. Item out for delivery.

Also, I'm laughing because the first bottle I pulled out of the box was one we talked about last year for a trade. A trade in which I completely forgot about...

Thanks for the great box @Tmappin . A nice mix of Halifax locals I would never be able to try otherwise, some Driftwood sours I've been wanting to try again, and a couple favourites over on the left. Also, De Garde...finally I get to try De Garde. Gonna put a good dent in the box this weekend.

As for my box, not much point in leaving any hints as I contacted my target to see if he was ok with me shipping late. I'm off on a beer trip through New England next week so I believe it will be worth it in the end! Let's just hope this thread doesn't die off by the time he gets his box.

Finally got this thing dropped off at Canada Post. 13 bottles and cans of various sizes and styles.

 

time to throw down some numbers! box is 94.4% packed (92.8% by volume). hoping my target will accept a slight delay in order to complete an in-person trade tomorrow, which will result in a wax-dipped bottle from outside of my local (it's travelled at least 223km + is from a brewery on your wantlist) being added to complete the whopping 305oz box (which is 52% British Columbian, 40% American & 8% Belgian; or 39% hoppy, 36% dark and/or strong & 25% tart) that's heading eastward and destined to land one hour north of one of my favourite Canadian breweries, if you drove in a nearly straight line (and it looks like you could do just that).

 

I think Kump managed to outdo that ounce count by 12oz.
