Dale's Pale or SN Pale, wide distribution, usually easily found fresh, and affordable.

12 packs of Golden Road Point the Way IPA can be had at Costco (Laguna Niguel) for about 14. Not in the same universe as Sculpin but not bad, canned, cost effective, and fairly light for an IPA for all day drinking (I don't get session IPAs). They have some other canned non-IPA options from GR in four packs but I haven't tried them.

Costco in temecula has 32oz mission IPAs for 5.49. Not a bad price vs quality. Only problem is finding a 32oz coozie.

Another vote for Modern Times, especially Fortunate Islands.

Hi Scott! I wish 21st Amendment distributed to So Cal...their hell or high watermelon wheat is superb for a hot day. Knocked down a few cans while floating on an innertube on the Russian River :sunglasses:

    Saint Archer Pale Ale

Probably take a bottle or two of something good as well. Thank you for the input! Interested to see how the weekend works out.

All great suggestions and I would add cans of Caldera's IPA to those listed above.

    Cheers,

Swami's, Ponto, Modern Times, or Heal the Bay. Everything else is just wrong.

More of this. Any beach/outdoor drinking or day drinking I've done for the past three months has revolved around Fortunate Islands. Never too heavy. Always crisp and packed with some great flavor, while keeping a low-ish ABV (4.8%). It's my go-to.

Fortunate Islands was by far the best beer of the bunch. The Saint Archer Pale was also quite a good find. All in all, successful weekend.

I really need to start abusing my Vertical Hold membership more over at Saint Archer's tasting room....their Brown is always nice. That...and holding a pint after a couple hours of climbing at the gym is like sex for your hands.

Ha! Last time I brought a sixer of Sculpin, I think I got one of them before the rest were eagerly swooped up by poachers. Pisses me off that there are so many who a) somehow didn't think to bring any beer to the party/picnic/riverfloat/whatever even though they were planning to drink beer there, or b) brought cheap ass beer so they could throw something in the cooler and then start drinking whatever quality beer somebody else brought.

Given that Sculpin's like $14 a six, I'm not going to make that mistake again soon. SNPA will work just fine.
