My wife is headed to a conference in Chicago next month and has agreed to bring me back some beer. We're in Maine, so there is plenty available that isn't distributed up here. She mainly wants to bring back cans, so I'm looking for suggestions as to the best cans available. I know New Belgium is canning now, so that's on her "To look out for" list. What else should she add? I saw a thread in this forum suggesting Old Style as a good beer to bring home from Chicago, and while I know it is in cans, I'm looking more towards craft options. She will be staying a mile from a Binny's.
Some off the top of my head. All should be easy to find i.e., local Binnys Daisy Cutter & Akari Shogun from Half Acre Anti-hero and Eugene Porter from Revolution
Revolution Anti-hero and Eugene Half Acre Daisy Cutter Stiegl Grapefruit Radler Vivant Zaison Tallgrass should be available by then, too.
Which Binny's? Not that it matters. They all seem to have very knowledgeable staff. Just make sure that she get's a "beer consultant". And, if feasible, have her call you when she's there. Don't know what style you might prefer, lots to choose from.
Half Acre Daisy Cutter Half Acre Akari Shogun(sp?) Two Brothers Side Kick - Daisy Cutter's cheaper, more available rival Revolution Anti-Hero
While its not a Chicago local, if you don't get Anderson Valley Hop Ottin' IPA out there in Maine I would recommend that. Otherwise all the other suggestions are solid.
Agreed on Anti hero, eugene, and little crazy from revolution. Daisy cutter is awesome (drinking one as I type this), and so is ten fidy (although not local to us, if you dont get it its very good).
Chiming in to also say anything from Revolution is a safe bet. I really am enjoying their summer seasonal Rosa. It's brewed with Hibiscus and it's pink. Once you get over it being pink, it's pretty good. I think it's fruity, slightly sweet, dry and very refreshing. It's a interesting alternative to most summer beers out there.
