I have just setup a kegerator from an old fridge and a new reg, coupler, and hoses. I have set everything up but am not able to reduce the pressure as registered on the regulator. No matter what I modify it constantly returns to over 20 Psi. Not good for beer I hear ...

I have reduced the flow of CO2 and released the pressure each time to see what the true pressure is and each time it reduces to zero and then immediately begins climbing until it reaches some where between 20-25 PSi. I just replaced the CO2 tank and since that point I have had this problem. Previously I was able to maintain the pressure even though there was a leak in one of the connections :-)

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    B

The regulator maybe needs a good disassemble and clean. If that does not solve it, then a replacement maybe involved.

If this is a new regulator.. Sounds faulty.

+1 faulty regulator, not uncommon for cheap foreign ones, but it can happen to all of them.

Is there a check valve between the keg and the regulator? If not (or if it's faulty), then the gauge may simply be reading the head pressure in the keg. Is the beer cold? If the beer is over-carbed, for whatever reason, the pressure in the headspace will slowly build as CO2 comes out of solution seeking equilibrium - kind of like what you're describing.

I am having the exact problem with my Kegco standard door mount kit, except my pressure is going over 50, even with the regulator turned all the way off! Everything was fine until I swapped kegs, seems strange but I'm new. I keep relieving pressure from both check valves at the tank and keg, but it still slowly climbs back up. <shrugs>

Could be a sticking diaphragm. They make rebuild kits for regulators.

Robby did your co2 go on its side at all during the swap? Odd that it worked for one keg but not the next. But regulators can let go whenever they want.
