I'm heading to the city this weekend (staying in Flatiron) and am looking to hit some of the city's beer bars. I may venture to Brooklyn and check out Other Half and Torst, but would like to find something close to the hotel if possible. What are your 2-3 quintessential beer bars in the area?

Thanks in advance for your $0.02.

Well, I think you can miss at any one of them, depending on what you're looking for. All of these update beermenus regularly, so that should help...

Milk And Hops (2 locations nearby)
    Proletariat
    Good Beer
Coopers Craft and Kitchen (2 locations nearby)
    Haymaker Bar and Kitchen

Also, check out Kanger's extensively researched thread on this, it even has a map.

PS - Is there really a Gamehenge Brewing Company? I'm going to need to google that!

For context, I drink pretty much every style. I'm most excited to drink local stuff that doesn't see MA distro. I know some HF makes it to the city as well, so any place that regularly gets that caliber of beers is what I'm looking for.

Dude - your timing is impeccable. Ginger Man is having their Bootlegger's Ball on Saturday with TONS of stuff that doesn't even get released in NYC. Alchemist, Lawson's, Modern Times, Hill Farmstead, Bissell Brothers. The list goes on. It will be insanely busy, but a once in a lifetime event, most likely.

Check out their website for the flyer. http://www.gingerman-ny.com

I really hope these beers are in the works:

Colonel Fourbine - A double IPA dry-hopped with four different hop varietals
The Sloth - Old Ale brewed with molasses
The AA/BA Bag - Super bitter Triple IPA with 100+ IBUs
Jimmy - A crushable session IPA
Porter Nutbag - A hazelnut porter
The Helping Friendly Bock - Traditional dubbelbock

I'm sure there are about 100 more puns you've already come up with, but just in case.

    Sorry to get off topic.

Lupulo and Marta are both kickass restaurants with great beer that are nearby.

Jesus, looking at the menu, at Marta you can get Tesseract and Edward right now and all the bottles of double neg or mb double neg

So much this. Beer at both places is expensive, but the food is awesome and the tap lists are always on point. Especially Lupulo, stuff seems to stick around there a while too. Right now they have three J. Wakefield beers, plus a Grimm, Grassroots (Hill Farmstead), and Other Half. You can't go wrong with either choice, but be prepared to drop some cash.

Nothing complements an $11 beer like a $4 oyster

That said, I do give Lupulo respect. They know their beer.

These bars are OK for pregame for a show or game, but so many better bars for craft in the area.

+1 for Gingerman, Proletariat, One Mile House, Rattle N Hum (both locations), Blind Tiger. All amazing spots with (9/10 times) outstanding taps. To be fair, if you can't find something you'd like to drink on any of these taplists, you're the problem.

Thanks again for all the recommendations, BAs. I wound up going to the Ginger Man event, Proletariat, and the Jeffrey. Got to try some rare NE hops (HT, sip, substance, edward) and some NY stuff I'd never had but really enjoyed (Rushing Duck, Third Rail).
