    I'm working on putting together a Cantillon tasting in the near future and I'd like to have a 750 of Monk's Cafe Cuvee at the party. I've tried researching this on the BA forums in the past but I never found any useful info. Is this supposed to be strictly for on-premises consuption à la Cable Car, or are these sometimes available for legitimate sale? Any info would be helpful.

    Also, if you've traded for one, let me know what it took for you - reply or bmail.

    Thanks,
    Nate

    They are available for sale. Had one sent to me at cost, wanna say $37.

    I believe I saw it on one of the online Belgian stores. I just tried looking for it with no luck.

    Used to be pretty easy to go into Monks and get one to go. About six months ago, that kind of stopped. I haven't heard about many bottles making it out since then, but I'm sure they still do on occasion. Some are still up for trade, maybe best to just put up and ISO and see if you get any bites.

    I think I saw another non-Monk's bar in Philly have it on their bottle list, but I forget where. They told me it wasn't available to go, but I think that was only because I wasn't a regular. It didn't sound like a firm policy...

    Shouldn't be too hard to find, a lot of Philly BA's that like Cantillon have a bottle or two. I traded a BA Cuir for my remaining 750ml.

    You misread... I would trade a BA Cuir FOR a Monk's. Not the other way around. /thread jack

    It seems I'll be the lone voice of dissent here;
    The Monk's Cuvée was not really worth it in my opinion. It was decent, but my preference for Cantillon gueuze goes;
    Crianza
    Classic
    1900 grand cru
    Mamouche (I know it's designated "fruit Lambic" here, but I think it should be a gueuze)
    Lou Pepe Gueuze
    And last place- Monk's Cuvée.

    I would trade $37 of good locals perhaps, but only so that you could tick it... I certainly wouldn't trade anything rare that I'd want to drink, as the Monk's isn't worth it to me.

    I assume as much. Everybody I've talked to who's had Monks Cafe Cuvee - and Jean Chris Nomad - say that it varies only slightly from Classic/Bio gueuze. I absolutely love Cantillon gueuze, and Jean does some amazing stuff, but he's not the blender that Armand is. But hey, it's a party!

    Yeah. I shared my bottle w/ DrewBa and Oreo and we cracked a classic next to it... We all prefered the classic.

    Glad to read this. I just traded for a Crianza, and I love Classic, so I'm excited. Every time I've had a bottle of Monks, I ended up trading it away, and now I just haven't made it back up to try some for myself.

    Classic Gueuze FTW! Monks Cafe is just a name that excites people.

    Was there recently. No bottles of cantillon are for sale to go. Only for on site consumption.
