Hi, While I realize it's still nearly 2 months away, I'll be going to Italy in October. Hoping to land some cantillon to drink at bars as well as to bring home. Any recommendations in the following cities: Venice, Florence, St Gimignano, Siena, Rome? Cheers!
I have read something about a bar in Rome which would have Cantillon....forgot about it.... Try to search the fora here!
I believe there's a brewpub in Florence that had Cantillon. I passed on going since I was heading to Brussels on that trip and didn't feel like chasing beer in a place so famous for wine.
Yea I have heard of a few spots in Rome but nothing in Florence. Even bottle shops with it in Florence would be cool. I can see myself drinking one on the balcony in Florence . I'm sure you can too @bluewolf17
It's actually called Max Pub. Very close to the main train station. I heard about it from some other Italy threads in this forum. You should search them out. They were helpful to me.
You can surely find cantillon in rome at macchècesietevenutiafa pub in Trastevere or luppolo12 in San Lorenzo
Open Baladin in Rome has Cantillion. My wife and I were there ealier this month and I took a bottle of Fou Foune, Rose de Gambrinus, and 100% Lambic bio with me home to the states. Prices were very fair: 14 euros for each 750 and eight euros for the 375. It's only about a 15 minute walk from the sites.
Also a couple places in Bologna that have Cantillon regularly, if you're up for a 30 minute train ride from Florence. They say the tortellini and ragu aren't half bad either...
Thanks everyone. Looks like I'll be purchasing some Loons on my trip. If anybody has local beer suggestions (i.e. From Italy) I'll gladly check them out as well! Cheers!
Birra del Borgo's Ducchessic is their spelt saison blended with 20% 1 year Cantillon lambic. Very nice. LoverBeer makes good sours and beers fermented with wine grapes. Black Barrels makes some of the best krieks I've had but you're unlikely to find any of those beers outside of a few select shops in Emilia-Romagna. There will be lots of good stuff to check out if you find yourself in the right spots!
Oops, looks like Black Barrels is located in Turin. I think the brewer used to work for Panil, which is located in Emilia-Romagna.
