I have yet to try any Cantillon and I was wondering if people know the best places to check. Not sure if any will be on the shelves now but where should I keep an eye out? I'm sure it disappears quickly when it does hit shelves...
Julios always seems to get some, and for whatever reason they tweet about it meaning its gone in under an hour. I haven't heard of a shipment since last November though.
Redstone in Stoneham got a shipment of 12 bottles yesterday....was fortunate enough to make it in time to get one but sold out immediately. Not sure if that helps.
Armsby Abbey in Worcester has a good selection in bottles and some of the prices are very reasonable as far as bottles in a bar go.
Don't blame Cantillon. They're producing at maximum output and an expansion would probably hurt quality. Shelton brothers is their distributor and have to spread out a thin supply over a huge demand.
In as much Cantillion can't satisfy the market demand - perhaps choose something else??? I know, a novel concept given today's ticker mentality.
I meant more of "the distribution of Cantillion's beers" and less "the way Cantillion distributes their beers", if that makes sense. Technically Shelton is the importer and CBG is the distributor (at least in Boston). It just seems to me that it goes to the same stores every time it comes in (I tried looking this up in the forums, but search doesn't go back far enough to verify due to site crash), and almost always outside of the city. Can anyone tell me the last time it made its way into Boston?
I'm sure Bauer or Charles St. get Cantillon, however limited. Plus, there are all the bars/restaurants that get it like Deep Ellum, etc.
Charles Street said on facebook a week or two ago that they got Cantillon Gueze in. I have never personally seen a bottle of Cantillon on store shelves in Boston.
Myself and CADMixes just missed out on that.. stupid traffic.. (I also said on the way "I'm sure someone from the tasting group is going to be here for this")
I got some last week in Western MA, wasn't on the shelf though, got to get in good with your beer managers. Was told it was only a half pallet for all of MA. I picked up 2 bottles of Lou Pepe 2009 Kriek and a Grand Cru.
I was lucky enough to pick up the last bottle from that shipment. It didn't make it to the shelves, they kept it in a box next to the register. Picked it up about 14 hours after they posted it on twitter and facebook.
Gordon's in Waltham is having a sour tasting this Friday. You can buy tickets on their website and they will also be selling their remaining stock of Cantillon at the event.
Well over a year. Probably two since I saw it sitting on a shelf and not in a back room. The best hope of getting any now is tracking when allotments are coming into stores and happening upon a store that is less vocal about when they get theirs (i.e. not posting it on Facebook and Twitter) as those dissappear in minutes, not hours.
I just picked up a bottle of Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus at Bauer. It was out back and the women at the counter said they only have a couple of bottles left ($13).
