Im looking for some basic info here.

Was it only made for monks cafe?

    Was in on site only?

    How much?

When was the last time it was made?

and what have people traded/gotten it for?

    Thanks.

    -Yes.
-Yes and no. A few years back I was successful in getting a bottle or 2 to go, but they stopped doing this when supply ran low and now they won't sell any Cantillon to go at all. The bottles are all gone now and the last keg was tapped during Philly Beer Week.
    -I believe it was $15ish for a 375, $30+ for a 750mL
-The last batch was 2006. There's a cool story about it they printed on a taplist from 2 years ago that I scanned and used in an article I wrote. http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/de...d37b28368b3ef95c5a714ac395a.jpg?itok=zmNpp7wV
-I only traded it once and it was to a regular partner so I don't have much context here

Yeah it's basically all gone now. Had it on tap during PBW. Was awesome, but they said that was the last keg as was said above me.

xnicknj hooked me up a few years ago, i think my cork said 2008 on it. and although ratebeer says its the same as the classic gueuze, its not. the monks was super heavy oak. very interesting stuff.

Nah was definitely the gueuze. Were definitely no hints of red or pink in the color and just tasted like a better/different version of the classic gueuze to me. It was fairly different from what I remember, but didn't review so I forget exactly what was different about it. Might've been the best gueuze I've had though, or right up there.

The last keg of Monk's Cafe Kriek was tapped in 2011 for a visit by the bros.

i imagine so. monk's cafe is good, but it's not earth shatteringly good, and i certainly would not give up something mega whaley to taste it again. if i had the '06 la folie (albeit i'm not an expert on the value of this bottle), i wouldn't give it up for a monk's cafe.

Goddamnit...it's supposed to zoom to full size scan. If I can find the file later I'll try to repost it if anyone really wants to read the whole thing.

I traded for a couple 750's back in early 2011, I think I gave up good stuff but nothing earth shattering.

I also had a 2008 and my understanding is that ratebeer aliases it because it is just Cantillon gueuze that was dry-hopped with the selected barrels chosen by Tom Peters. The rumor was that Jean Van Roy did not like the blend.

That is the story Tom told at the Opening Toast for NHC this year. Dry hopped Classic Gueuze that Jean Van Roy didn't like. To add to the story, those guys responsible for the dry hopping were some crazy Americans like Vinnie and Tomme; it may have been everyone involved in Izzy, but I don't remember all the details from the toast.

Isn't the fact Jean Van Roy didn't like it the reason it doesn't have a traditional style Cantillon label? I didn't much like it myself.

It was Tom Peters, Tomme Arthur, Rob Tod, Sam Calagione, Adam Avery and Vinnie Cilurzo. They added 20 kilos of Amarillo at the end of the boil and Jean Van Roy said it smelled "terrible."

No wonder its not as good as classic gueuze.

I opened an '08 classic next to a monk's gueuze and didn't find much of a difference.
