those prices seem pretty high. I had my first cantillon back in January at the Farmhouse Tap & Grill and it was the Gueuze Classic. It was delicious but cost 30$ for a 750ml. Now i'm able to get some cantillon for cheaper so i'd never go back to paying 30$ for a single one let alone 50-60$

Is it a crazy markup? Yes. Is a crazy markup to be entirely expected for those bottles? Also yes.

For a bar mark up that's pretty standard in reality.

Bars in PA are making way more on selling normal things. Considering every craft pint is like $5, even for SNPA and the like, markup is more on that stuff.

If it's the bar I'm thinking about then they used to do 20% for takeout which makes the prices a bit more reasonable. Like others have said though, for those prices you might as well get some shipped from Belgium.

They do allow take-out for these beers, but there is no take-out discount. Thanks for the info.

That isn't an option if you live in PA.

They can't deliver "collectible glassware" to residents of PA?

Seems to be more and more the norm for bar prices. I went to Novare Res the other week and they had every regular Cantillon in stock but they were all $40-$50 a bottle. Seems over-priced for normal line-up stuff. And it's annoying that bars can get all that to mark-up and stores will barely get a case of 375s.

I think part of the pricing is to make sure there is always at least some Cantillon in stock. To a Belgian-themed bar that is probably important. If the prices were cheaper, they'd always sell out of it. When some places can charge $50 takeout for Fou'Foune and it sells out immediately, this is the reality.

This is an awesome point. This would also explain why most of the bottles they sell there are actually quite reasonable for a bar.

OK, then you're not talking about Teresa's then unless they've lifted the takeout ban on Cantillon. They used to allow pretty much any bottle on the list for takeout, but the bartenders said when we were there for PtY that Cantillons are on-site only now.

P.S. Belgian online stores will ship here as they either don't know or don't care about varying state laws. I've bought from two of them and know peeps who have bought from a number of others and had them shipped here.

You may be right about the Cantillon - I was going by the legend on their beer menu which may or may not be up to date. A "!" denotes that it is not available for take-out while a "*" denotes that there is no take-out discount. All but 1 of the Cantillons had the "*" while 1 had the "!".

Just fyi check this place out http://shop.belgianshop.com/
All their Cantillon is OUT, and that 1 bottle was 50 bucks, so plus shipping of nearly 35 to 40 bucks, you actually make out. If you factor in air fare. But of course its quite nice to drink it at the source.

Other places my sell it cheaper but I never used any other stores but this one, but even I stopped years ago. I was buying when Westy 12 was under 10 bucks a pop. I live that beer, but its not worth 15 and up a bottle. I save my pennies and go over every 2 years or so and drink it then.

Saw from your earlier post you are in NC. I've found other Cantillons besides the classic geuze in quite a few shops across our state but it is very infrequent.

As far as bars go, I'm not sure where you are located in NC but there is a bar in Greenville, SC called the Trappe Door that sells Cantillon regularly.

You can also find the classic geuze at The Busy Bee and The Times in Raleigh.
