Lucky to have a taste of the next edition recently at the brewery... a 3-year-old Iris blended with a bit of kriek, then dry-hopped. Gorgeous and distinctive. Unsurprisingly, a lighter shade than the kriek, which my notes described as cranberry, and not that cloudy, with a persistent scrim of head (foreshadowing a nice cleansing bit of carbonation). Hopping is restrained, just blending with the cherry and the sawdust to give a prairie-like smell, and a bit of grapefruit-zest bitterness. The cherry and the acidity are naturally detuned a bit. Defo a keeper. (Unless of course it was all just another "zwanze" jest at my expense...)

Don't know about a date but you'll be seeing Cuvée De Florian, along with the above described goodness, at Zwanze Day locations.

This is a new batch of Cuvée De Florian, I assume?

Seems to be. I wasn't familiar with the old batch, but it was described as the Zwanze offering and in honor of Florian's birthday. Maybe I conflated the two ideas.

I really hope somewhere near me does a Zwanze day this year. In my local there's only a half dozen of us who drink Lambics h. We're currently debating on getting a keg at the bar, however it means we'd need to drink 20 litres between us.

Is there a reason Zwanze is not around the same time every year or announced pretty far in advance? Is it because Jean waits for the beer to be ready rather than force it to be ready for the event?

Regardless, I'll be going to one in NYC since I can't feed my Cantillon addiction since coming back from Europe.

Ha, jet-lag drinking, good luck with that. I suspect that Brussels, ironically, won't be the easiest place to participate -- I bet the Moeders will be packed. But you can probably easily go there or Cantillon the day following and sample to your heart's content.

Well, you'll be close to Arlon, if Mi-Orge Mi-Houblon participates again.
