While the US location list leaked a couple weeks ago, Cantillon announced the full list of worldwide hosts earlier today. This year's Zwanze Day will be Saturday, April 20.

As to the actual Zwanze beer...it appears we're getting a sea lettuce lambic this year.

    ---

A little over a year ago, we were in Brittany to submerge a few dozen bottles of Gueuze in the sea as a collaboration with Sylvain, an abalone farmer in Finistère. These bottles are still fermenting at a depth of 10 meters in the company of his charming creatures.

Once a month, Sylvain brings up the cages to add various types of algae for the mollusks to feed on. We tasted these same algae in tartare during our visit, and the idea came to us to try them in maceration with lambic to create a partnership between the brewery and Sylvain's company. After several attempts, it turned out that seaweed, specifically the sea lettuce, gave the best result.

The beer is, of course, very different from the fruity, vinous, or floral tastes traditionally found in our products. This Zwanze 2024 exudes aromas of exotic fruits; it has notes of iodine with a slight salinity reminiscent of oysters. In short, a very different beer from what we are used to discovering at Cantillon - a true Zwanze!

After two years of the scamdemic and two more years with Elkader, IA, out of the lineup, it's finally back. Unfortunately, as things stand right now I won't be able to make it. Maybe in another two years. :slight_frown:

Has anyone ever seen the Zwanze beer available in the states after Zwanze Day? I'd really like to try the 2024 version. It sounds... interesting.

I have to admit that it doesn't exactly sound like something I'd like. At the same time, I really liked the beet one and the black pepper zwanze is up there with my favorite Cantillon pours of all time. I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt, and if it sucks at least there should be other pours available. Crooked Stave has always had at least 2 other Cantillon kegs and 3-4 bottles as well.

Not under normal circumstances (I won't count the COVID year where they held the kegs a year), but they do bottle the Zwanze beers. I bought some in Belgium. There could be circumstances where a US bar is able to buy some or someone visiting happens to bring one back.

What if, say, the keg doesn't kick? Can they still sell it? As it happens, I'm going to be out of the state visiting family that day, and there aren't any Zwanze Day venues anywhere near where I'll be. I certainly wouldn't be loath to drive a hundred miles out of my way to get it on the way home. (I've done stupider stuff than that.)

I spent more time than I’d like to admit scrolling through 2022 Zwanze Untappd checkins to see how many venues may have either held on to a non-86’d keg or got another one at some point and…I wouldn’t wager on any remotely convenient-to-you location having pours after the event.

I don't think I have ever heard of Zwanze not kicking at a Zwanze day event.

They had the Zwanze keg pouring for a few days at DeCicco’s in Somers NY from the last Zwanze Day.

Got my ticket for the event in my town. Coincidentally, it happens during my towns 'Beer Week', so I splurged on the VIP ticket, which gets me in early, and hopefully out early, before it gets stupid crowded.

Beer Temple Zwanze could be in jeopardy as our Cantillon distributor was acquired but not all the brands will be moving to the new distributor. Hopefully they work it out in time for the event.

That’s because they’ve never made a sea lettuce beer before.

I don't get the skepticism of this year's zwanze beer. To me, the salty umami flavors you find in seaweed are a very logical compliment to a geuze.

Spuytin Duyvil closing down day after Zwanze. Sad to see it go.
Hopefully another NYC spot will be able to have Zwanze moving forward.
