If IPA's are her thing she needs to make the short trip to Minipivovar Modra Hvezda in the Czech Republic they make a great one and you can even take home bottles of it, granted they are 2 Liter plastic bottles but hey that's the Czech Republic for you.

When I lived in Germany, my German coworkers considered Belgian beer to be suspect, some not fit for human consumption. Maybe things have changed as that was 16 years ago.

Perception may have changed, but I think the beer is still unfit.

Many Belgian beers are at or above the same level of those brewed in Germany - different styles sure.

This is true, but not brewed under the Reinheitsgebot, sugar and other not permitted things are used. Therefore the beer is suspect, as it was explained to me.

Certainly yes, but the general perception of Belgian beers in Germany is by and large still one of outlandish filth not suitable for human consumption. Usually by people who are exclusive Fernsehpils drinkers to make matters worse.

I concur, the people screaming the loudest and from the highest treetops are usually those drinking the worst beers, and whose opinions should not be equated in intelligent discussions.

...or it's the people who are fully convinced -- despite never having visited a certain beer culture -- that the sheer variety at home must trump any quality available abroad.

Yeah, I can think of other nations who are equally guilty of "beer nationalism"

I think that if you read very carefully* between the lines of HerrB's post... he's alluding to exactly what you suspect.

(*yes, this is irony. You don't really need to be that careful.)

Probably, but what does that have to do with the beer you like? :grinning:
