So I know its a long shot, but does anyone know if and where any variety of Cantillon is available in the northwest suburbs of Chicago? I have been looking at my regular haunts and anywhere I come across that has a good selection, but always come up empty. I have been drinking a lot of sours over the last few years and want to try more. I have only ever had the privilage of drinking a 100% bio Gueze little guy and think I need to find more.... Any ideas? I will even take suggestions for alternatives......
Pretty sure it does not get any distribution to liquor stores in Illinois. A number of bars/restaurants in Chicago have it.
I believe Cantillon was imported by the Shelton Brothers and they are no longer distributing in Michigan. You can check the Shelton Bros. website for their distribution footprint.
They do pop up from time to time. I walked in on a box of Cantillon Classic that had just been delivered this morning to a store that I didn't think ever got Cantillon (downtown, not suburbs). I'm sure they're gone from that store by now, but my point is -- keep your eyes open and let your beer guy(s) know what you're looking for. They can at least tell you if they ever get any.
Walgreens is the place for Cantillon in Chicago (thats not a joke ....well kinda a joke but a Walgreens did have Fou Foune).
Yes Cantillon can be found around the Chicago area, but very infrequent and you have to get lucky or have a hook up to get any. I would guess most Binny's are lucky to see a few cases a year, and that's 6 bottles a case. I have been lucky and gotten a Lou Pepe Kriek and Classic Geuze in the past year +
I found some at a bottle shop when I visited Rockford. They had 2 different kinds. Can't remember the name of the place, but it was more of a wine shop. Of course this was back in November though.
If you really want some Cantillon place an order with etre or Belgium in a box, expensive but worth it if you love world class sours.
