And now Hog Island purchases Cape Cod Beer...

A message from Todd & Beth Marcus and the Brew Crew at Cape Cod Beer…

After 21 incredible years of brewing on Cape Cod, we are happy and eager to announce that our beloved brewery has been acquired by Triton Beverage Group, a newly formed entity comprised of Hog Island Beer Company, Mayflower Brewing Company, and now Cape Cod Beer.

Please know that this decision was not an easy one. Over the last two decades, this team has created something that we’ve said is “bigger than just beer,” and we would be silly to let that legacy come to an end. We truly believe that this transition will provide an opportunity for Cape Cod Beer to grow and continue making a positive impact in our community. It was extremely important for us to find a partner who would honor our brand, our people, and our commitment to this place we call home. We believe we have found that in Triton.

It has been quite the journey, and certainly one we haven’t taken alone. We wouldn’t be here without the amazing support of this community that we love. We are incredibly grateful to our friends, family, employees, Mug Clubbers, and customers who have made it all possible. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. It’s been a true honor to be Cape Cod’s beer, and we look forward to celebrating with you as the brewery embarks on its next adventure.

Throughout the summer, our taproom operation will continue as usual, and our wholesale operation will be converted from self-distribution to distribution with L. Knife & Sons. The Hyannis brewery location will remain open throughout this transition. All private and public brewery events and beer releases will happen as scheduled, and event inquiries and rentals are being accepted into 2026. Todd & Beth will continue to own and operate the brewery and team of employees for the remainder of the summer season, with an expected final transition sometime after Labor Day.

Interesting mini-consolidation in the Eastern MA brew scene.

The wording also seems pretty clearly implying without expressly saying it that the brewery is closing sometime after the summer but the brand will survive. That las paragraph has all kinds of caveats!

We have a family house in Dennis so I ususally go to Devils Purse for a brewery visit, but many fond memories of the Cape Cod Beer taproom experience from years ago (except the drive from W Dennis to Hyannis!). I usually try to have a Cape Cod Beer of some sort on tap whenever I'm in town.

So what's the deal with Triton? Did major investors get together to form this thing or is the Hog Island owner just loaded? Mayflower and CCB have much better portfolios than Hog Island, so this is obviously an "if you can't beat em, buy em out" scenario.

Was wondering the same thing. IMO, CCB and Hog Island are mediocre at best. Mayflower is the best part of that threesome.

I go back to Cape Cod Beer to when they were Hyport Brewing Co in Hyannis. I've enjoyed a bunch of their beers over the years - the porter is excellent, and the Summer is great - more of a hefewiezen than most of the summer beers that show up. They have some limited edition ones that are very good also.
It is an interesting move by them - though I know Todd and Beth are getting up there, I presume they're looking to retire, and this was the best bet for the health of their brand. I have always enjoyed visiting their spot - I hope it stays open and producing; the announcement indicates it will at least for the time being. It's a pretty big facility, though I don't know the barrel per year numbers, I'd have to think it dwarfs Hog Island. It seems, so far, that while the brands will be under the same corporate umbrella, they'll still operate more or less independently, though I presume ordering ingredients for the three will get better terms than individually.

Going to be staying in Dennis last week of June. Where should i hit for some good beer? Anywhere worthy? Brewery preferred but a pub with great selections is legit too.

Devils Purse is the brewery in Dennis. Absolutely worth a visit.

Moonshine Liquors is very close and has traditionally had a pretty good beer selection (I check dates there though).

Cleat & Anchor has an excellent beer selection down in Dennisport (excellent by any standard not just Cape standards). It's not cheap at all for the Cape ($9+ drafts) but they have Hill Farmstead Edward on right now (as an example) and always have a very good selection. Food there is fine. They are a quasi-BBQ place with a bunch of other options. Beer menu is always pretty up to date has been my experience. In addition to Edward, they have Schilling, Belleflower, Weldwerks, Foam, Proclamation, Little Willow, Fox Farm, Foundation, Bissell Brothers, Counter Weight, Long Live Beerworks and a several others on tap right now.

Devils Purse beers are solid, but temper your expectations for their taproom. It’s a garage with a piece of semi-shaded astroturf in the parking lot.

Best option for a taproom is Tree House in Sandwich, but it’s a scene with annoying parking in the summer.

He said he was going to be in Dennis ... hence my lack of Tree House and mention of Deveils Purse. :-)

Devils Purse is exactly as Enron described. A big garage with a turf "patio" on the blacktop. Good people, good beer. Good vacation brewery in the town you'll be in!

Tree House is indeed a complicated visit if it's a nice beach day. If it's a crappy day, that beach lot is usually on the empty side and makes it much easier to visit (also works later on a nice day once the beach crowd has headed home). That said, from Dennis it's usually a 40 minute drive in the summer, each way.

Yeah, depending on which bridge you use, Tree House is usually best done as a first or last thing on your trip. Not worth making the drive over. And I don't fully agree on the rainy day aspect. Lots of people go to TH on non-beach days since there’s not much else to do. So it can be even worse.

Exactly how I handle Tree House ... Usually hit it on the way in to stock for the time on Cape. If timing is right (i.e. can get a spot in the lot) usually have some pizza and a pour while we are at it. If I'm really bold, I hit it on the way off Cape, too, but only if there's no traffic on the mid-Cape (somehow it seems deflating to get off and delay the drive even more!).
