Although I planned to go last Summer, I did not. Had heard many good things about the brewery though. Actually heard they’re the best down there.

Picked up Follow the Gull today. It's such a great beer.

Got pickup from CMBC this weekend, more FtG shocking. Also picked up a blueberry stout which was good and some Tan Limes and Coastal Evac. We also stopped at Gusto and got their black IPA and a DDH Slam Poet. The Poet was an awesome beer, recommend it highly and the black IPA was solid too.

What can I expect a case of Coastal Evacuation or Crushin’ It to run me at the brewery? $40-45?

this is a sheer guess but fun game and I’m sure someone will post the real answer. My guess: 44$ (11 a four pack seems right)

Their online ordering for curbside pickup says $12.99 costal and $13.99 crushin, both are 6pks. I'm not sure if they do case discounts.

Been in Wildwood for a couple weeks(I live in Boston) and have been drinking lots of Cape May. Follow The Gull has been a favorite because it’s full flavored but only 5.5%. Their lineup is quite heavy on citrus right now and I’m a bit burned out on that profile. I’ve twice failed to finish a can of Strawberry Lemonade Sunset. It’s too sweet. Looking forward to opening a can of Irrationally Exuberant because it sounds up my alley.

Follow the Gull seems to be most people’s favorite of their hoppy beers. It’s mine for the same reason you said. I also like their regular ipa a lot too. They do seem to really like citrus though you’re right.

I am too a fan of Cape May IPA.

And for folks looking for more than citrus I would recommend Coastal Evacuation which has a complex hop aroma/flavor for my palate.

Cheers to Cape May for giving us choices!

Agreed, Coastal is mostly centennial hops, so not overly citrusy. I will say, the Tan Limes is growing on me............great after the beach. I just had their Key Lime Corrosion (sour IPA) and that was really good too.

So, have you 'moved on' from Cape May Brewing nixing their Lager?

    Cheers!

P.S. Have you tried Yards Loyal Lager yet?

Do I have a choice Jack? Nope, thus why I'm even giving Tan Limes a fighting chance.

I have not tried Loyal Lager yet, I keep forgetting. I'm putting it on my list right now for my next road trip to Exton.

LOL! Keith, we all have choices. Buying Yards Loyal Lager is an example of a choice.

    Cheers!

Well technically I have no choice but to move on from the CMBC Lager, so no we always don't have choices. What I do have a choice of is to find a substitute. I got a sixer of Loyal yesterday and will try one tonight. I'll report back.

Well, one more option is to homebrew your version of CMBC Lager. I recently homebrewed my reconstruction of the original 1896 Michelob.

Other commercial beers I have homebrewed:
    • Pliny the Elder
    • The Alchemist Focal Banger
    • WeldWerks Juicy Bits
    • etc.
I suppose you and I have differing philosophies but I figure I always have a choice.

    Cheers!

Has anyone done the brewery tour?

Cape May tour? It’s um......a little underwhelming if you ask me. In all fairness though their brewing facility is not huge so there’s not a lot to see. I did it a few years ago so maybe they spiced it up?

PS. They are releasing a new pale ale tomorrow, Cut Back, sounds good. I’ll have to get some next week.

@JackHorzempaLoyal Lager was solid, good recommendation thanks.

@Kadonny and @JackHorzempa are both right I suppose. I really liked CMBC lager as well and it’s true we can’t get it anymore but there are MANY excellent lagers and pilsners brewed locally IMO. I do wish they were still brewing it and I prefer it to tan limes but like I said, lots of good options out there. I am unfortunately not a skilled home brewer (I’ve done a few batches pretty well) so I’m not going to bother trying to replicate their lager.

I enjoyed the process but decided my skills were needed elsewhere around the house. My brother-in-law, however, is a fantastic home brewer and might just be making the leap to commercial brewer so I leave the family brewing up to him these days.
