White Caps is really swell!

Does anyone know if their sours make it to any stores?

 

I've seen them at Wegmans Princeton and Mt Laurel.

 

Buyrite in Hazlet has had them recently.

 

I bought their Sours at a store in Toms River.
I've seen cans of the IPA at Joe Canal's in Woodbridge
Never anything north of there.

Hi everybody! A few of us on the production crew at CMBC (I'm the head brewer down at Cape May) check in from time to time on these forums, and while we always enjoy seeing one of our beers mentioned on one of the other threads none of us ever felt it was right to join just to chime in on other threads where we've been mentioned. But this morning one of our cellarmen who keeps tabs around here said this thread got brought back from the dead so I figured it was a good time to sign up to say hey!

To those of you in central Jersey you should be able to find us pretty readily these days, and those of you in the northern parts stay tuned because we'll be coming up your way before you know it. For the Philly crowd, we've been sending limited kegs your way for three years now, but starting this past August we started sending cans up there - and we're definitely going to keep expanding that in the coming months. As for the sours, they do see limited distro in all of our areas of distribution, but not every account of ours is interested in carrying our large format sours so they definitely aren't on shelves across the state, but they're out there and available here and there.

Definitely do not be a stranger here. Many people, including myself, appreciate those who make great beer to come down to the average consumers level and not stay invisible. Being accessible and answering questions / concerns makes for happy customers. I know when I was there in September, your facility was a great stop during my mini vacation for the NJ State Firemen's Convention. Keep doing what you're doing, and I know I will be following your "Northern NJ Distrubution" updates.

 

That was my first thought too. I haven't had anything from Heavy Seas in a while, but historically most of their beer has not been memorable.

Recently a friend brought over a six pack of Cape Mays Coastal Evacuation, it was pretty good

 

There are over 13k ratings on BA for Heavy Seas and their overall rating is a 3.74 (Good) which is about right IMO. My guess is someone there knows someone at Beer Connoisseur.

I do like Coastal Evacuation and their Honey Porter is very good. I was never overly impressed with their IPA but they seem to be improving so will be on the lookout for Topsail and some of their other stuff.

 

Came here to post about The Beer Connoisseur's ranking, but I see it's been discussed! The Topsail really is great, 4th release in excellent BA-sour bottle series—I loved all the first 4, Keel & Skeg particularly amazing. After that, Higbee was tasty, and Phantom Crew nails the style too. Impressive first 2 years of bottle sours, definitely watching for what's next!
In Northern NJ and Philly, maybe ask your LBS to request from the brewery?

Here in Denver we're ridiculously spoiled with great sours local and national
(no joke, still sitting on shelves are Beachwood, Arizona Wilderness, Scratch, Russian River, some Jester King, a little Rare Barrel, even Casey, and more)
Likewise hops, with nearly every 2-3 y/o brewery selling (overpriced) IPA cans or crowlers to-go. Plus stores getting great cans like Melvin, Pipeworks, Modern Times, now WeldWerks etc etc.
No exaggeration, CMBC City to Shore and White Caps were some of the best canned IPAs I had last year!
Not saying they're equal to all these breweries, in all styles/offering—but given the upper-echelon stuff I drink (and pass on) all the time, from locals/stores/trades, I definitely don't think of CMBC as just a "South Jersey Brewery" fwiw.
(And maybe that's kinda what Beer Connoisseur is saying?)

TLDR: CMBC bottled sours and tallboy hops are fantastic.

I'm a big fan of Coastal Evac. White caps is OK, but not great and I still have to try the IPA. When does City to Shore come out? is it seasonal or was just a one off? I can regularly find CM in cans in the Philly area... on tap too.

Just cracked last in BA-sour series I hadn't tried, Lady in Room #10:
wow, delicious!! So jammy, awesome fruit, with great sour/tart complementing. For comparison reference, RR Consecration/Supplication touchstone—miles ahead in complexity and chewy fruit linger. Amazed this is from CMBC, tbh.
Seriously savoring and need another bottle!

 

It is a seasonal and it is arguably their best beer. Grabbed a growler as soon as it released!

 

Thanks for the kind words, all. Really enjoy hearing/reading the love for our beers, especially Coastal - that's my go to of our core brands. We're starting to roll out more and more seasonal/limited offerings in cans, and you should've already seen them rolling out with City, King Porter Stomp, and White Caps, and on Thursday we'll be releasing for the first time in cans Snag and Drop, our big 10% triple IPA that is stupidly easy to drink. That'll start going out to stores on Monday, with it seeing a pretty wide distro so you should see it around most places that carry us.

 

Yeah City is definitely one of our best offerings, everyone on production was super jazzed about that being our first 4 pack/tall boy offering. It had been on draft the past four years, so having it packaged this year was a real treat! It's made in honor of the Bike MS: City to Shore 100 mile ride from Cherry Hill down to Ocean City every September, and this year every member of the production crew participated in the ride, and at the end of a 100 mile bike ride this beer was the most perfect thing I could ask for.

 

Just want to thank you, in the awful selection at south jersey bars your beers are the only shining light. And that bike ride ends pretty close to my house, I may in fact participate next year. The beer at the end certainly helps!
