Collier's Liquor Store | Craft Beer, Wine, Cape May NJ Best part it is right near downtown. I would also recommend hitting up Cape May Brewery in Rio Grande since you're down that way. I believe Collier still gets Carton as well as some other small South Jersey breweries like Tuckahoe.
Most likely not going to find carton in cans, the beer manager at Colliers says people are following the carton truck and he sells out fast. But Colliers and Sunset Liqueurs in West Cape May are good place to look, small but decent selection. The Mad Batter Restaurant and Bar, Cape May New Jersey Dining and Entertainment, Best Breakfast in Cape May NJ Might have carton on tap, they are the best craft beer bar and the food is great as well.
Yeah, if they're still in Dennis Twp, there's an easy, back-roads route that you could GPS from Cape May Brewery to that location. Keeps you off the parkway. Tuckahoe is worth a visit, IMO. Especially if the coffee stout is on.
I disagree. There are some good options at cape may. they also are always trying new things and usually have a pretty large tap list. and its the closest brewery to downtown cape may. I do agree that you should stop at tuckahoe. their small batch stuff is exceptional, and the core beers have been reworked and are always improving.
How do they know when Carton's truck is coming? Just curious, I'm not looking for tips. Too old and lazy to be that kind of beer guy.
I believe carton does their own distro, so when people find out the carton truck is out and about they know where it is going. Last summer boat and 077xx would be in their cooler window a couple days or longer past delivery. Now they are know for carrying carton cans, they disappear 1-2 days tops, if not the same day as delivery. I would call colliers, ask for Josh and he will honest tell you your best chance to find Carton. I just drove a 3 hour loop around cape may and atlantic county to find ONE bottle of helldorado.
As a local, I don't ever go to cape may brewery between June and Sept. Just not worth the hassle. In the off season, its a great place to chill out and their one off wednesday beers can be really good. But I can understand how someone on vacation could walk into cape may brewery and be like WTF. They have expanded their outside area, so I hope that helps, but at times waiting in line can take 20+ mins for a refill. Finding a bar seat, good luck. At times their tap list can be depleted. But overall they are going through growing pains, and I hope they continue to improve their customer experience. Also, not having any bottle selection this summer was huge bummer for a lot of people. But I don't find their beer disappointing, just disappointing not finding their beers.
Well it looks like a few weeks ago they started a growler only line right by the end ofnthe bar by the door. Hopefully that will cut down wait times when your just trying to get a pint.
The issue we face in CMC is, not enough labor to handle the summer rush. I did stop by there to get a growler of concrete ship when it was released, and again the only one in the growler line, 20-30 people deep line for glass refills, and a full bar, only so much the poor 3 kids behind the bar could handle. It took 20 minutes for the growler refill and I was the only one in the line. This was mid afternoon. Again, not trying to bash them, but its hard to service the tourist rush, and keep locals happy down here. Winter time, I love sitting at their bar and having a pint with friends, and talking with their staff. Summer time, again I can see how people could be annoyed going there.
I know they self-distribute, but I was wondering HOW they knew the truck was out and where it was going. They deliver all over the state. I don't live down near Cape May. I was just fascinated that people really do this. I love Carton, but I do have a life.
I would also agree that Tuck is much the preferred choice over Cape May. Cape May is avg at best across the board IMO.
Big fan of Cape May Brewing. I think their flagship IPA and the Coastal Evac Dipa are both very solid. Grabbing some samples in the tasting room can take forever though. There has to be a better system.
Honestly, I can't comment on HOW. Im sure there is some kinds of schedule, I mean I know when hunderton delivers to what stores on Wednesday and Thursdays. So if there is a limited release this upcoming week and hunderton has it listed, I know I have to be at XXXX, XXXXX stores on wednesday by 1-2pm if I want see those beers on a shelf. Im sure its pretty similar with carton. All I can say is, talking with the beer manager at Colliers, he said its like they are following the truck, once its gone, I got 4-5 people asking for it, and the invoice isn't even in the computer yet. So I guess they have some kind of schedule. This came from saying how he can't keep it on the shelf this year, and last year it was always in the cooler for a few days. The internet has spread that you can get can there, and people are going there and buying as many as they will sell.
