    Yeah, it's out already. And since it's been a long-time favorite, I gambled on a six-pack.

Why is this once great brewery having so much trouble with diacetyl? I tried the Oktoberfest last Fall with the same problem. I even e-mailed the brewery, but received no answer.

Is anyone close to Capital who knows what's going on? I saw Autumnal Fire and the Dark Doppelbock on shelves over the past few months, but just couldn't take the chance on $12 or $14 six-packs of butterscotch. ice cream topping.

I had the Autumnal Fire last fall and it was great. No off tastes. Tho, by now, I'd be VERY wary of any I found on the shelf.

See, it's not about age in any way (and age doesn't really prompt diacetyl) -- the Maibock I have is very new and the Okto from last Fall was also new... yet chock-full of diacetyl. I even have one bottle of Cap Okto left over that I should try for posterity... but I'm honestly afraid.

Out of curiosity -- did you have the 2018 Autumnal Fire from the bottle or on tap?

Had the Autumnal Fire in bottles. I'd sacrifice a finger or two to get it on tap!!

Fully agreed that it's not about age. If it's contaminated, it's contaminated Your first post said that you saw it on the shelf over the past few months. I figured you know better, but I threw in my last line to make sure you didn't somehow take my comments about AF to mean that it's OK to buy what by know is a shelf turd. Which is a pretty unforgiveable sin - Autumnal Fire being allowed to become a shelf turd. :grimacing:

I'd be AFRAID to try that by now. New Yea's Eve is my time limit for Oktoberfests. By then, they're starting to taste a bit off. Heck, wait a few more weeks and open it for St. Patrick's Day. It'll probably have turned green by then!

Same here. Bought a case (bottles) and enjoyed Thanksgiving thru New Year's Eve. No issues with AF. One of my faves.

I know it’s not quite the same but go track down some New Glarus Cabin Fever. Session honey maibock

I had the octoberfest on tap at the brewery and it was horrible. Had a strange sour taste, I was surprised they served it. About a month ago I had a can of Octoberfest and it was great. So the can which was very old at this point tasted much better than tap at the brewery. The autumnal fire from a bottle I had was ok.

Isn't all the packaged Capital beer (non-bombers) contract-brewed by Stevens Point?

I was talking back to November/December and also talking about the Dark Doppel, however...
    Heck no, but thanks.
Yeah, it's still out there in some spots, but I'd blame that more on price than most anything.

I've had the NG Cabin Fever (even this year already), but it's just not as good as some other Maibocks to me -- almost too thin. I also opted for a Lakefront Maibock six-pack and that's drinking pretty good.
Not contract-brewed, but Point was bottling for them. But is that still the case? Because there's no mention of Point on the labels or six-pack carrier.

No matter, they were transferring the beer to tanker trucks and bottling it up the road a long time ago without incurring the problems I'm tasting.

Yea I know what you mean. That’s why I thought it necessary to use the term session.
