It's amazing that this has almost always been the case. Fresh....aged...whatever....B2 really is amazing and entirely unlike every other batch.

I don't want to hate on CL.... but:slight_smile:

I feel the quality of CL beers especially the barrel aged stuff has seriously gone downhill in the last 3-4 years.
I know with the sour stuff you cannot really control the bugs but recent vintages of CDC and Marron are nowhere near as good as the early bottlings. I was especially bummed when the changed the base beer for the Smoke in the Oak series. HUGE DIFFERENCE. Yes some of these were extreme gushers and probably infected to be honest but Batch 1 STO Rum was amazing and Batch 2 Bourbon STO was amazing and Batch 2 and 3 Wine STO was amazing. I have been very underwhelmed by the recent STO stuff.

Not to completely sidetrack this thread, but have you (or anyone else) had B2 recently? If so, how's it doing?

A buddy opened up a B2 at the last CdC release....just as spritzy, juicy and funky as ever.

I know that a lot of people aren't fond of "cellared" wild ales, but this is one that hasn't taken any sort of dramatic dips for the worst.

Personally, I'm curious as to how B1 is doing....I can't recall ever having it.

I think newer batches of CdC are still great beers. Batch 4 is probably my favorite right now. Rosso is sort of meh. I don't think I was ever a huge fan of that beer in the first place. I opened the new barrel select black the other week and it was delicious.

Maybe I need to revist some of there recent stuff. I trust your pallet bro. Maybe some recent CL bottles at our next tasting? I got a batch 1 # Barrel Select I have been looking to pop soon.

I did have a B2 a few months back and delicious as ever. Not quite as carbonated as I remember though. Delicious stuff.

B1 Is pure Whale meat at this point. It was reall real good stuff but there never was a ton of it. It was also ludicrisly hyped after it won a best "sour" award when it came out. I cannot imagine that there is any around anymore. I am constantly suprised by people's deep cellars though so you never know.

Of course, "hype" meant something entirely different in 2007.....

Yeah It did. I could be wrong but I think there were less than a couple hundred bottles and I don't think that they even had a release for it.

Things have changed. I remember showing up at the B2 release 45 minutes early getting my bottles sharing a few bottles in the parking lot and continuing on my way to Manhattan. 2 hours max. I stopped going to "hot" releases after I got shut out at KTG showing up @ 5:00 AM. But that is a different issue right?

I'll open some newer CdC. CdC is usually minimally carbed though, no?

You can probably still pick up BS black at the new brewery if you find yourself over there.
