Officially gone. There was a 2 month window where you could stroll right in and grab your bottles with ease. Surprised it even lasted that long.

We drank b2-b5 about 4+ months ago and b2 was clearly superior to the others. I would definitely recommend it, just wish I could justify the going rate for a 2nd tick. Fantastic stuff though

Ah, I saw it was still on the website a week or so ago. It looked like the limit was gone too cause they listed a case price. And I had bought my bottles on St. Patty's day, lol.

Since you are local Knifestyles... I am driving through Westchester on Sat morning memorial day weekend. I have time for one stop for beer... De Chicco's in Ardsley or the CL Brewery? Or maybe some other place? It's funny you are in Norwalk BTW. I am down at my sisters place in Norwalk about every other month. Tasting perhaps? LOL.

I think that was an administrative error because:

    1) There was a strict 4 bottle limit
    2) The price didn't jive...you would basically be getting a 20% discount if you had purchased a "case". Personally, the only "discounts" that I've ever received at CL were sample pours.

I suggest stopping at DeCicco's if you can only do one. CL likely won't have any bottles that you can't get in Ardsley.

Though, they're literally 10 minutes down the road from each other. If you have time, I suggest making the two stops. The new brewery is incredible....and the tasting room....well.....it's pretty big/nice.

EDIT: Yup. I'd say a tasting is in order.

F-it... I have to stop at both... I haven't been to the new brewery yet.

I am not sure when I will be in Norwalk again. I will hit you up before my next trip and see if it makes sense to meet up and do some bottle popin! I love my sisters brother in law and nefews but some good beers would improve my visits for sure:slight_smile:

Batch 2 blew me away near the time it was released. I think the best bottle of Castleton I've had was the lone bottle of batch 1, about a year ago or so. The tropical fruit and clean acidity was really special. I agree that batches 3 and 4 were a step back, they were too grape-forward to my taste and were not as effervescent and light as the first two batches. I did enjoy the lone bottle of batch 5 I opened.

Please don't remind me of the batch 5 release...it was a sign of the destruction of the craft beer nerd community and pretty much assured I'll never go to a bottle release again.

We had a batch two castleton last month and its still fantastic and prob my favorite batch of castleton with b4 next but ive never tried b1 so i cant do a full comparison.
As far as barrel select b1 that was prob my favorite cl beer from the time it came out until about 6-8months ago when i felt like it was starting to thin out and gotten more acidic losing some of the funk i loved when fresh. Ill have to open one and see if it has smoothed back out though.

I was not a fan of it either, as well as the most recent Rosso release. I am on the fence if I will go again or not after those two experiences.

It doesn't matter anymore. I can't see CL doing any more announced releases in the location they are in now.

I havent been to the new location but I hope to get there soon. I would really like their releases if they were just more organized about the process, the bottle sharing part of it was a lot of fun and you leave with some great beers. Minus the one guy who had his allotment taken from his trunk... not cool

it seems like future releases will be handled like BS black was, which i think is preferable to both the brewery and most consumers. i think anyone at CdC batch 5 would agree.

I was curious after reading this thread and opened a b2 and b5 last night. B2 has clearly deteriorated, it was a bit stale, dull, some cardboard oxidation coming in. B5 is better at this point, probably the best non b1 Castleton right now. I can't speak to the b1 other than having one about a year ago. I offered a Millennium Geuze for it on the forums recently and no one responded.
