This has been a long time want of mine and I'm currently drinking one right now. I wasn't expecting a ton as I'm not a huge tripel fan but I was absolutely blown away by this beer. Its actually my second highest ranked beer. I traded a bunch of random stuff to get this beer plus a few others so I'm really unsure of what its worth. So I guess my question would be what is the availability like on this beer? Price per 750ml? Is it a seasonal or rotating?

CT is currently getting six packs and the Captains reserve IPA and Xtra Triple but nothing else. Is this a shelf beer in NY or is it pretty a brewery only release? I'm probably going to have to trade for more, but I was hoping some more of the Captain will trickle its way east in the future as we just recently got their regular lineup.

i'm sure it's not that hard to get, but i've always kept a casual eye open for it in my NYC and new haven travels over the years and never stumbled onto a bottle (in fact, i've never tasted it).

Just was at the brewery last weekend and they have plenty of it. Furthermore, it is distributed as I saw it at a store I went to to grab some beers. Price is $15 at the brewery, but I saw it for $13.99 at the store. I also believe it is a seasonal spring release, but those with more knowledge of CL can correct me if I'm wrong.

I can get it now, and at some places it lasts for a surprisingly long time on shelf. Really delicious beer.

Whole foods had cases of the stuff in NYC as early as a week ago, probably still around a few places.

I'll grab you a bottle if I see it Dave.

Cosmicevan sent me one as an extra a couple months ago. Very interesting and very delicious. From what I got from him, it isn't desperately hard to find but you probably don't get slapped in the face by it. If you know what I mean.

I opened a year-old Golden Delicious a week or two ago and it was pretty funky. I don't remember Xtra Gold having that, but it's been awhile. Anybody else try one recently and get the same thing?

Davey, did yours have a gold cap, or one of their new caps?

We opened a bottle of Golden Delicious at a tasting a few weeks ago and everyone agreed that it was infected. It was an older bottle, so it might not be an issue with stuff on the shelf now.

New cap. Infected or funky golden delicious sounds kind of awesome though...

I still really enjoyed it, but I picked up the same thing with Limone Luppulo. Haven't experienced any issues with the new bottles, I'll have to give it another shot.

It's brewed several times a year, so it should be readily available. Plenty of it in the brewery.

Wonder how the older one was stored, as it typically ages pretty well. Gets musty... and develops more candy like flavors.

One big piece of advice - make sure the bottles have the new [Elmsford] address on them. I made the mistake of picking up a bottle of the Captain's Reserve a few weeks ago and didn't realize it had the old [Pleasantville] address on it until I took a sip. It was terrible. I don't believe that Capt. Lawrence uses dates since I couldn't find any info about it on a dating chart I downloaded courtesy of this site.
