I am going to be in the Newport area in a few weeks and was wondering how hard it is to score some captains daughter at the stores or at the brewery on a Friday. Any help tracking it down would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

When it's flowing at the brewery it is no problem to get at all. I can't speak to finding it in cans. Where I live finding cans is hit or miss, but I'm also just a bit over 100 miles away from the brewery.

Can't speak much for Newport but Grey Sail is pretty prevalent in most liquor stores around RI. If some of the bigger stores don't have it (because they're obvious destinations for people) try a small mom and pop store. Chances are you'll find a fresh 4 pack. I know that was the case in northern RI this past weekend.

awesome. thanks for the reply. I'll really be in Bristol so hopefully the'll have it around there but if not, i'll run to the brewery to at least grab a growler.

If you are in Bristol, try Grapes and Grains in Barrington - I don't think it is too far, like 20 minutes, but traffic can be a real wild card in my experience. Downtown Barrington is "quaint" - shops, narrowish streets. sometimes the zombified pedestrians. Grapes and Grains do frequent tastings (Grey Sail, Foolproof, etc) and usually have the local RI brews decently stocked, plus a great staff.

You are still an hour away from the brewery. I think there's a pretty good shop in down town Newport but I don't remember the name - vaguely think it was somewhere near the tennis hall of fame and a grocery store, but I could be way off base with that given my advanced case of CRS. There's gotta be someone on board here who knows Newport proper better than me.

For Newport, I'd say that Bridge Liquors is your best bet for Captain's Daughter and overall selection. Norey's, Malt, Pour Judgement and Brick Alley Pub all tend to have something good on tap.

Also I recommend hitting or calling up Sandy's Liquors in Middletown on the way into Newport if going that way. I would think Captain's Daughter may be on the shelf more than a few hours there, but not sure if and when their shipments are.

I'll second Bridge they seem to have it pretty frequently but sometimes you have to ask the guy at the counter. Great beer worth the search. Also while you are down here swing by Tilted Barn brewery. It's like 15ish minutes from Newport and there beer is great and super fresh. Only open Sat 1-4. Bring cash.

If you hit up Barrington, you may want to check down the street at Brickyard Wine and Spirits too. They usually have local beers there. Brian the manager is definitely good about working that angle of things.

not sure if you are referring about captains daughter but i thought it was becoming year round now or as often as they can brew it.

So says their public relations. But the two places in RI that i typically get it have only an older batch and one place in MA i usually get it is out and has been for like 3-4weeks.

My twitter machine indicates a drop has occurred at least several places today, including Nikki's in Providence. Grey Sail definitely sends out batches every couple of weeks, so it may be worth talking to your locals if they are out for a long time.

I bought out the "old" batch (2/17) over the past week at a local spot (very tasty and no buttery notes), so my hope is they get a newer batch in short order.

We received a case of 3/10 dated Captain's Daughter on Monday, much to everyone's delight.

Having Grey Sail distributed by the Budweiser guys (at least in our area) was a fantastic move for them and it really helped build the brand in our area pre-Captain's Daughter. Now it's just exploding.

In Northern CT, it's 13$ for a mixed six pack - 2 CD's, 2 Flagship Ales, and 2 Extra Pale Ales. CD was very impressive, but my god do I hate the manner of distribution.
