Hasn't happened with previous batches that I've had. Definitely a can drinker for the rest of this batch

I have seen black floaties also. Captain's Daughter has to be one of the most inconsistent beers I know. It ranges from great to drainpour.

Proclamation is killing it and their hoppy beers are probably tops in the state.
Tilted Barn is making some very fine ipas and hoppy pale ales as well.

It's been hard to find anything on the shelves, even if only a few weeks old, that is better than the fresh offerings from these brewers.

That being said, I do grab a 4-pack of CD once a month or so because it is very good.

Got my first can of this that wasn't overwhelmed with diacetyl yesterday. Now I can see why people like it. It was quite enjoyable. Too bad I'll always be hesitant to buy it based on my bad experiences with buttery batches.

I stand corrected. I believe you though. I used to live in Southern RI but left before Tilted Barn was doing much brewing for public consumption. Ive heard good things though. Its my first stop next time Im back that way. And based on anything else from Proclamation, I would believe their hoppy stuff is top notch.

Was surprised how much IM Gan in Cranston had this afternoon, must have been 7-8 cases of cans dated 8/18/15. Grey Sail must be upping their capacity. Last time at this store there was a sign "1 four pack limit", however I did not notice a sign this time.

I don't get this beer. Got a 4 pack at Kappys in Peabody/Danvers last week. Just not good. No aroma to speak of and odd /not appealing bitterness.

This beer continues to be incredibly polarizing. I had one in Providence a few weeks back -- didn't think to check for a date. I thought it was really good. Smelled like pineapple juice and had a great juicy flavor too.

People are still chasing this? Does this only have hype because other Rhode Island breweries making good beer are just too small? I really can't figure this one out, had cans from multiple batches and either it smells/tastes great for like 2 minutes then turns into a buttery mess or buttery mess right out of the gate.

Also the reason why most craft stores in MA don't get Captain's Daughter is because Grey Sail rotted on the shelf for years, so no sales to justify receiving an allocated item.

Just to clarify, I wasn't "chasing" it although based on some entries above and the ISO's I see in the trade forums occasionally it sounds like some people are and my message was intended for those folks. That said, I did grab a can of the 8/18 batch (I have some every 3-4 months just to check on how things are going) and there is some sort of off flavor, not quite buttery but can't pinpoint it. Based on the nose, I think I'm about to drink a gose - maybe they are making special summertime batches?

Man this makes me wait impatiently for Tree House to can their next batch of Curiosity Twenty, that was how you make a mosaic DIPA! And you KNOW theirs will not be inconsistent.

Can today, 4 days old. Good. Not great and not anything worth the price. Going to keep moving along.

Also make sure to check out "Alter Ego" by TH, it's the same base beer as Julius but dry hopped with a ton of Mosaic of Amarillo. It's incredible.

Had this for the first time last night, on tap at amesbury alehouse. It was pretty spectacular...Tons of melon. I was looking for the buttery notes so many people talk about but didn't notice any. Guess I caught one of the better batches.

    Absolutely amazing. Can't get enough.

I really dig this beer and have yet to pull a buttery batch. I also live in SECT so pretty close to the source. By no means are these beers sitting on the shelves down here in CT. You're lucky to find a 4 pack that's not split and gouged these days. Picked a 4-pack out of the cooler from a small store in EL this week for $12 which I'm happy to pay. It's definitely a completely different beer than GB. They dry hop the shit out of CD as compared to GB which is much more balanced and has a lot more hop bitterness.

This is a good beer, but not worth the chase, the "back room secret handshake treatment", or price. If I stumble upon it at a fair price I'll buy it, but it's severely overhyped.

Was really surprised to see this on tap at Corner Pug in West Hartford (the waitress didn't know what it was), on Saturday.

Probably still around. Corner Pug worth a trip anyway; awesome food.

Grabbed a 4 pack the other day. I stayed away for a while because it had been hit or miss but this batch is amazing. Canned on 11/20.
