Captains Daughter

The batch I tried was very fresh and ruined by a terrible buttery diacetyl taste. I would have given it a 2 myself if I had bothered to rate it. Maybe they've made some batches without that off taste, but there was no excuse for them canning the batch I had. It was a shame because it smelled incredible.

Agreed about butter/butterscotch taste. I thought it was the malt? No idea and not a fan. The beer is very good. But I can't get over it and price is too high. I can buy Larry for cheaper and get 2 more beers. Plus Larry is same if not better IMO

 

12/22 batch of this was bad,imo,plain and simple.... a ton of buttery flavor.Also,this batch was VERY clear.First batch I tried was hazy as hell and tasted ALOT better.

 

I've got a log on at home and I'm loving it! The only downside is the abv - it packs a punch if you want more than 1.5 or 2 pours.

 

Where are people finding this? I haven't seen it anywhere.

 

I tried two different batches and both had a noticeable diacetyl taste. I won't be buying it again.

 

When pouring from the can I am getting black particals and it is very hazy. Still tastes good to me, just curious if others have had the same thing

 

I had 4 different four packs when Captains Daughter was first available in CT. The first three were amazing, hazy and luscious and fresh. The last four pack appeared to have separated, the beer was clear and there was particulate at the bottom of the cans. This four pack didn't taste anywhere near as good as the other three. I haven't been able to find it since.

 

The cans have been very inconsistent. From taste to appearance. Diacetyl in a couple of batches, black chunks in another. Although, I did have one batch that was very good.

 

Where? I'd like to try some.

 

What I heard was that the daughter, whose first name was Sofia moved to California & got married to some Russian named Pliny. I know there were 2 brothers in the Russian family but I think she married the Younger. They had a bunch of sons that were all auto Racers the most successful being the 5th, his name may have been Dale or Oscar. They also had 1 girl named Matilda & she moved to Escondido, California & got married to a guy with the last name of Stone & then they divorced. She indicated that the guy was an Arrogant Bastard. The Captain stayed in the Sothern Tier of Western New York where he was elected Pumking & eventually died from Krampus. He had 2 sons named Phin & Matt. Both boys moved to Vermont where one became an Alchemist & the other had a Farmsted on a Hill.
That's all I know....but I drink a lot.

 

Had it for the first time yesterday, on tap at Modern. Really good, but it felt heavy for a DIPA. I enjoyed it but I really just wanted one pour.

 

For anyone in SE Mass. City Spirits 2 has had a few 4 packs of 12/02 batch as of last week.

I am glad someone else wrote this cause I had the exact same experience twice. Lots of butter and malt and hops were very subdued. Ill probably give it one more shot.

 

I think i was at said bottle shop yesterday and he told me to come back tomorrow too! maybe ill see you there. Ive been on the hunt for this all week. I even have a couple stores down here in mass who have never heard of it ordering a case to the store for me.
