Okay i did feel like i tasted something different, but like i said, i dont really know what the diacetyl taste is yet as ive not much experience with it. It smells very good, tropical and hoppy. But then the taste was more piney to me and then it had what i think is the diacetyl in the finish.

Im going to crack open one from the 11/23 batch today and see if there is a noticeable difference.

I just had 2 from the 11/23 batch on Wednesday. And 2 last night from 01/06 and although they were slightly different I felt they were both excellent.

I am not sure what this diacetyl flavor is that you speak of but I thought they were both awesome!

Did you get the 11/23 batch from Spritus Fermenti in RI? If so, does that guy overprice or what? thank god i only got 1, at first i told him to grab me 2 or 3 but then i saw the batch date and stuck with 1. almost 16 bucks for the 4 pack!

Diacetyl is like a buttery taste/mouthfeel that can happen if there is an issue during brewing. I noticed people talking about grey sail having an issue with is so i wasnt sure with this new batch.

Glad you enjoyed them both and now i look forward to trying the 11/23 batch

I got mine from Park wine & spirits in Cranston. Only $10.99 per 4pk. They have a limits selection of craft beer but they have what I like. And the prices are the best.

next time try Nikki's. They have a great selection and really good prices too. The only issue I have with them is the secret seems to be out. The last time they got Captains daughter it sold out in 2 hours.

Yeah they got it in friday. i called that morning and they said they didnt have it yet but would be posted to facebook right when it came in. Then i called high spirits and they just got some so i went and grapped a 4pk. Stopped at nikkis and even though they never made the post to facebook they had it in. Those are my 2 go to RI shops.

I'm hoping Yankee Sprits in Attleboro has it this week. I loved Flying Jenny and have been on the look out for this.

Me too! my girlfriend lives in attleborro. I actually called them friday when everyone was getting cases in RI and the response i got was kinda odd. "uhhh its not available right now, but definitely keep checking back with us". Almost like they got it, but werent selling it to the public yet. Ill be back over there wednesday to see for myself personally.

Im drinking a can from the 11/21* batch right now and though i can tell its the same beer, it is definitely a little different. It has a bigger diacetyl issue. The hops are completely overrun by it too which stinks. All im really tasting is buttered down pine hops lol with a hint of booze.

They definitely did better on their newest batch.

    P.S sorry for double posting

Butter is becoming an unimproved theme of this beer. What a shame. Is the Captain's Daughter the Land O' Lakes native American girl?

Diacetyl flavors will become more pronounced the older the beer is. From this thread it seems like the beer in general has diacetyl issues that range from unnoticeable to some to popcorn to others. I actually made an IPA that had problems with diacetyl that I never really noticed until a friend pointed it out. It was an ok beer but after he had pointed it out all I did was focus on the butter flavor and dumped the keg.

I noticed similar notes in that batch that Smutty mentioned on the previous page. After looking forward to trying it based on some positive reviews, this turned out to be a really disappointing brew. Why it is that such an "off" batch was released for sale to the general public is beyond me.

I can't remember the last time I had a good batch of Larry, can or draft. Used to be a top notch IPA, but a malt bomb the last dozen times I've had it.

Had a second (and third) can from the same 12/22 batch and still am not pocking up any overly buttery flavor. Strange. Im pleased with it overall though.

Just had a can of the 12/22 batch and it tasted like straight metal. It was awful. I wish I had seen this info before purchasing a 4 pack today, would have passed. The draft pour I had a few weeks ago on the other hand was great. Ugh.
