What is the best method for carbonating my beer?

Given the temperature of the beer, determine the steady state PSIs needed to carbonate to the volumes of CO2 you want. Then set and forget for about 3 weeks. Choose a beer line length that will balance against the PSIs used.

Or crank up the CO2 and shake the keg.

I recommend the former. The latter often results in a follow-up post with "My Keg is overcarbonated. What should I do?"
