It will depend on which Island are you visiting. There's a thread about PR in the Latin America forum that gives some info in case that is one of your stops.

From my experience, there is very little difference between any of them, other than dark vs light.

You can find Guinness Foreign Extra Stout most places in the Caribbean, stick with that one. Carib lager is OK for hot days, not many choices. I found some OK bottle shops in Puerto Rico.

99% of the beer in the Caribbean sucks major ass. Don't waste your time or your money. Bring a couple bottles if you want to drink something good, otherwise just stick to local rum, tequila or whatever local spirit you can get your hands on

Yeah dude, its the Caribbean. Think Hunter S. Thompson + rum. Lose yourself and do everything you wouldn't typically do with your girl, there. Can't have great beer everywhere. Just sip the hard stuff for a couple days and wear flippy floppys.

At the resort, your beer choices will be limited, and BMC rules. Stick to liquor, be sure to tip even if all inclusive, enter the limbo contest, and have fun!

Dragon Stout (Jamaica) is you can get it. There are a few other Export style stouts in the region, as well, but Dragon has the funkiest malt profile.

In Belize: Guinness Foreign Extra Stout is available in 275ml bottles, brewed in Belize by Belize Brewing Co. Ltd. (Bowen & Bowen, who also have the Coca-Cola franchise and the leading brand of bottled water).

    Belize Brewing’s other beers:
Belikin (lager) — the most popular beer in Belize, usually served in the 284ml bottle, nothing special
Belikin Stout — tasty and smooth, served likewise in the 284ml bottle
Lighthouse Lager — light Eurolager, served in a small bottle
These beers are always fresh! Bottles usually cost $BZ 4 = $US 2. Guinness usually costs $BZ 5.

Imported beers in Belize are from the Caribbean, including:
Dragon Stout and Red Stripe Lager from Jamaica.
Presidente Pilsener and Kabuli Gold, both contract brewed for the Belize market by St. Vincent Brewing.
Carib Lager from Trinidad & Tobago.
    Heineken brewed in St. Lucia.

I was living in Puerto Rico from November to February and have been backpacking around Mexico for the past three months, so let me tell you....basically a beer wasteland. The Caribbean is worse than Central America but there still isn't much here. And if there is anything available, it'll be from the States and be very expensive. Although, if you must, the three Bohemia beers in Mexico are very good. The best beer in Mexico is Noche Buena but that's available only during the winter holidays so that's useless to you. I'm guessing you'll be sticking to the coast, specifically east of the Yucatan peninsula, and the craft stuff that's from Mexico and actually decent is generally in the central region and up in the Baja. I know there is a shop called "The Beer Box" that can be found in Playa del Carmen and a few other spots along the coast of Quintana Roo state.

So like people are saying, stick to the local liquors available. Azul and El Jimador tequila are cheap and ridiculously smooth (as in, no salt, lime, or chaser required). You must try mezcal and pulque. All of these are from the maguey/agave plant (and all tequila is technically mezcal, btw). I haven't made it to Belize or Honduras yet but I'm sure they have their own regional sources for getting drunk and silly.

Take some time off from craft beer. You'll be in a different country. Change it up. Then, when you get back to the States, you'll appreciate craft beer even more. I haven't had a proper beer for months now and I can't wait to taste hops!

Seriously, bring your own if you can. I generally get a hop craving after about three days of rum/adjuncts, and really kick myself if I don't have a couple cans of my own stuff in the hotel fridge.

I don't think there is going to be much to search out, so if you can't bring some in, you'll really enjoy that first beer when you get back.

    Enjoy yourself and congrats!
