I personally would call it an APA since t does not have a watery character that the majority of Session IPAs have.

I am a BIG fan of Carton Boat Beer and I agree with @LMT of "one of the best beers under 5% I've ever had".

    Cheers!

as you all know, to the chagrin of some, i don't really get hung up on "classic styles."
for example obviously swisher is your typical "fruited cascadian dark rauchbier," and we called lilly a "trufpel."
bdg is your every day british chestnut malt bill, with german kolsch yeast, french aramis hops, and nj water; intended to compliment midweek dinners at home without showing off too much. still not a style as far as a i know.
as far as boat goes i call it "a session beer for double ipa drinkers." it's hoppier than most pales, too yellow to be an ipa and too lean/bitter to run in the standard session crowd. it tends to let people down if they are looking for it to be any of the above.
if you have gotten in trouble when you don't stop drinking douple ipa's because you are so wrapped up in aroma evolution and palate shifting bitterness hopefully it satisfies some of those needs down at a sensible 4.2.
so basically call it what ever you want, and let me know what you think. the people i most want to try it are folks like me that would drink 12 dubs a day if there wasn't so much going on away from a comfortable bar stool.

@augiecarton , you and Shane (@Sixpoint) need to form a "We don't need no stinkin' styles" club.

    Cheers!

Or collaborate and brew the most ambiguous, style-bending beer of all time.

I *LOVE* Boat Beer... that is all.

(actually no it's not, since it is not for sale where I live, I am tempted to try to clone it, but that hop profile is out of my league... let me know if anyone runs across a decent clone recipe for it)

to me it tastes like a wonderful smorgasbord of a hoppy pale and crisp kolsch. so session bliss

Boat is a great brew and is an awesome starting point for a nice day of drinking. To the folks who say that they don't get it, don't like it, or just think it doesn't taste like anything, try it as your first beer of the day. If you drink any hopped up brew before a Boat you will not get very much out of it except the kolsch base. Great brew by a great brewery.

Beer style is defined by the yeast in which it ferments.

    Carton Boat is a Kolsch.
