my rub is a riff on Joe's. i sub out half the sugar for the cocoa dial down the cumin and up the cinnamon and use a far fruitier coffee than he does, but its all based on Joe's.
as a bit of clarification the rub on the can isn't my meat rub, its my rub adapted for the beer. much more salt and garlic and cumin in the actual meat rub

That makes sense and I think it shows in the beer since I got those coffee, chocolate, and cinnamon flavors, and didn't get much salt, garlic, or cumin.

Going to Fette Sau when it opened in Bkln was a revelation for me. The meat was so moist and smoky and the dry rub was so delicious that it was my first time eating barbecue where I didn't want any type of sauce on the side with or on the meat itself. Really fun to get to experience that same rub (or close to it) in a beer. Thanks for making it happen.

Not sure how NJNYC732 posted that update for this week but he was right about it. I went up there Wednesday and they had a bunch of Ego cans. I still only see last weeks info on their site for some reason.

What do you mean? How could they post this Wednesday-Friday availability last week?

Anyone head over to Swayze day at Talula's tonight? Curious on how the beer is. Had it last year and wasn't a fan.

Funny, because I was actually at Talulas at the time. Enjoyed a Drift Line. I'll prob go next week too, didn't get to try last year's Swayze.

swayze day beer is different every year and by every brewer. last years was "dalton's kriek" a sour cherry beer, this year is "too wong brew so long and thanks for everything julie brewmar" a sour brown. ours is a fabulous sour smoke milk brown because that's what seemed fun under this year's direction

Seeing that it's next Friday I should be able to make it up there. Definitely interested in trying it and I love talula's so that's a win win.

Any reviews on EGOIPA? I really dislike north of 9% in most DIPA. The alcohol just gets in the way for me.

The common misconception is the relation to IDIPA; they should be reviewed as a separate entity. Once a certain (high) abv is achieved, then masking becomes another objective. My take on the 4oz draft was a dank version of regular coffee vs. my take on the can. The first few sips via can had a malt/diacetyl awareness. However, steering the palate via temp changes brought out a thick/creamy/caramel texture; much better as a sipper/warmed up = able to pull out more juicy/tropical notes

…would like to revisit the draft to validate dank regular coffee

I think it's great. Hop profile like ID of course but a much bigger body. Not hot.
