Bella Vista just announced that Carton is coming to Philly. Heard about these guys and pretty excited to get to try them. From their announcement here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151611167364434&l=f690617361
Easily my 2nd favorite NJ brewery next to Kane - I anticipate these guys being a big hit in the city, especially Boat and Monkey Chased the Weasel for the summertime.
Founder Porter had 3 of em on, but that was back on 9/30. Bainbridge St. Barrel House had a couple on as of 2 days ago (this is all from the PhillyTapFinder site). In general, I'd think that the main 3 Bella Vista bars (Hawthorne's, Cambridge, and Bainbridge St. Barrel House) would probably have Carton stuff on pretty regularly. Probably Devil's Den and Old Eagle too (had a couple Carton brews about a month ago at the latter).
Tried that and it didn't really work for me. The base stout was excellent but for me the tartness just took it in a bad direction.
I would think this is more draft than cans/bottles as I just checked Carton's site and the only 4 stores they are currently sending beer to in South Jersey are all stores with growler stations. If they were distributing more than kegs then I'd imagine this list would be longer than 4 stores who do growlers.
Cans are only available (very limited) directly from the tasting room. Since they don't can very often (400 cases at a time via mobile canning company) they can't distributed
Manayunk Brewery also uses a mobile canning line yet they distribute their cans to SJ as I have them at my store. I don't know what size tanks Carton has but Manayunk has 30bbl tanks (though they are upgrading to 60bbl tanks in January) yet they can enough to distribute to SE PA and SJ for now (though their cans are 12oz and not 16oz like Carton), though in somewhat limited amounts. If Carton only has 15bbl tanks then I can understand why they only can enough to sell out of their tasting room and don't distribute them. Bottom line is that them coming to Philly is just draft until they decide to expand their production. Maybe distributing to Philly is part of their plan for future expansion.
The Craft Beer Outlet had Boat on draft as of yesterday. Might have kicked for half off Tuesday growlers and pints though.
