I was just wondering what they usually have that is available. My friend will be headed up there this weekend and I'm not sure what to ask for. All I ever hear about is 007XX.

The above post points out some Carton can options. As for Kane, your friend is better off getting growler fills of Head High and Overhead.

Single Fin is also good. Make sure he gets u a waxed growler of the shipwreck porter. Its 20 bucks and u get the growler u can fill gain. Plus the beer is pretty awesome

Do not miss out on Boat. Don't just think, "aw, it's just another lame session IPA." It's 4.2% of serious grapefruity-hoppy goodness. You will be surprised.

A truly unique brew (that you can drink a few of!).

Mainly cans/bottles. I hate the urgency/amount of growlers, especially since I'm not sure how quick I will be on getting these from my friend.

Well I gave you the up to date list from both breweries. Like them on Facebook to see what else they might open up with this weekend. Kane has One bottle for sale, but they are a great place to visit for a couple beers and growlers. Carton is your best bet for cans and they have good stuff in stock.

Yeah, I forgot to check out the breweries sites and FB pages first. Thanks for the help!

If you do go swingtop from Kane, I've had 2 week old growlers from them that tasted just as good as they did fresh as I wanted to do an experiment for trades (sent the growler to Wisconsin, kept my growler warm until he got it, rechilled it and drank). Tasted fantastic.

Screw tops aren't nearly as friendly IME.

This year's Carton Shipwreck Porter was absolutely amazing. Don't pass up on it. Nailed the balance of the beer and rum barrel. It's the first porter in some time that i really appreciated it for being a porter and didn't wish it was a stout

What do you find is the difference between porters and stouts?

Not much really. Very blurred line. Just from a personal standpoint I do tend to prefer stouts that are bigger/more viscous/complex (not adjuncts, but a lot going on in the base). I enjoy porters, however most (not all) barrel aged porters ive had, ive been a little off-put by lack of body, or just haven't been too impressed with. I don't really get too many regular porters these days, since i feel the mouthfeel and flavors to be a bit less than what i want out of a beer. This is one of the few barrel aged porters that ive had that really blew me away tho. Not to say it was thin, but the overal quality of the porter itself, plus the perfect amount of rum spices, vanilla and oak, really helped make an impression, and i didnt mind that i wasnt drinking the biggest possible stout someone could brew. Hope that clears up what i meant? But yeah, i know, that porter/stout line is quite hazy, and really doesn't mean too much in reality.

Yeah I dk. I don't recognize any difference between the two anymore. I think for a while I told myself "stouts are thicker/richer than porters," but it just doesn't seem to be the case. Hell, the style descriptions on BA are the SAME EXACT THING. The only thing different is the use of the words porter and stout.

Way way back a stout was just a stronger porter. I recall reading that it was originally called a "stout porter" but eventually the porter part was dropped

I'm not up to speed on NJ growler laws. Does Kane, for example, only fill their own growlers or will they fill glass from other breweries?

NJ growler laws changed a couple years back and Kane as well as other NJ breweries can now fill any growler.

The caveat seems to be "as long as it has the government warning on it".

Carton puts a sticker on outside growlers. Think breweries may need some identifier. Stores can fill anything
