Question for others that have tried this beer. I tried it on tap and enjoyed, so I bought some cans. I opened one and got an off-putting flavor. I would describe it as a bit burnt and similar to cigarette ash. I wouldn't say its necessarily off, as much as just a flavor I don't like. FWIW, I get something very similar from Ballast Point's Calm Before the Storm so maybe it comes from the coffee infusion process or something. Just curious if anyone else got something similar from this beer.

    I didn't have it on draft, so I can't compare, but I didn't get
anything off-putting from the beer. I thought the coffee and
hops played nicely off of each other

I've had 3 cans so far - nothing off on my end.

Good to hear. Either of you guys had/ enjoy Victory at Sea or Calm Before the Storm? Curious if its just a weird flavor sensitivity on my part. Also dealing with a bit of a cold so my sense of smell might just be f'ed.

I've had a few cans of Yirgacheffe, and I've also had the Ballast Point beers. I have not noticed what you're describing either.

I had Victory at Sea and did not notice anything like that. Sounds like it could be a personal sensitivity, like you were saying.

Had a few cans of SS, nothing off to me...I actually like it when it warms up a little, hops and coffee are really good IMO.

Agree with the majority here, thought all the elements played nicely with each other, no off-flavors or aromas (I had cans only, no draught).

Thanks for the help all. Sounds like a good chance it was just me. I'll post an update when I have my sense of smell back and pop another can (hopefully soon).

I think the ss tastes like a sip of coffee after having a bite of lemon meringue pie. No smokiness to me, more bitter roast and lemon
